I've been told here and there that I often (but not always) twitch/jerk when I sleep. I did some research online and it seems that the cause of this is either being excessively tired or falling asleep when your mind feels you have a responsibility to be awake. There are some other hypotheses but nothing is certain. The medical term for this condition is hypnagogic myoclonus or a hypnic jerk. Share your twitching experiences and insight.
I don't know if I do, but moestavern19 does it every night. It's usually about 5-10 minutes after we turn away from each other and begin to fall asleep...his arms and legs jerk/twitch for a few minutes, sometimes so forcefully that it wakes him up.
i twitch all the time. sometimes i even do it on purpose to freak out my g/f. one time, she was calling me to wake up from twitching and i held my breath pretending i was dead. that wasn't funny...to her. i know, i'm cruel.
I twitch pretty often right before I fall asleep. I read up on it in the past, apparently it's pretty common.
You know what always gets me? When you're in that state of semi-sleeping before full sleep, and you dream that you fall in a hole and jerk awake.
Does anyone fall into a dream state while they are half awake? It happens to me often. I'll be dreaming of something while going to sleep and then remember I need to turn the lights off, etc...I never really asked anyone else though it it happens to them.
This happened to me in class last week. My Mondays consist of waking up at 6:30, class from 8-12:30, night class 6-9:30. Needless to say, by the time that 6-9:30 class rolls around i'm running on fumes. So I caught myself dozing off in the middle of a lecture then all of a sudden my leg twitched which I guess scared/jolted the rest of my body, I loudly hit my foot off the bottom of the desk and jerked my body up all in one motion. Everybody looked at me like I was crazy.
