Do you think he's one of those guys that can bring a team together? or does he have a long way to go to become one like Battier and T-Mac?
We want him to do more but I doubt we want him to be a leader like Battier or TMAC. Please no more "its on me", time to prove it on the court.
This is kind of like the other thread going on, but I'll humor you. I don't think they see him a leader, but more of someone they depend on to get his 20-25 and 10. I suppose they see him as their base, and that you can count on him.
Since when are Battier and T-Mac true leader ? Last Year our true leader is Juwan Howard. This year's leadership role is still up for grabs, but Mike James will probably end up doing the pre-game pep talk
I think he is a leader by example by how hard he works and how he always wants to get better. the problem is the zone rules which have effectively taken the big man out of the game. teams are always crowding him with 2 sometimes 3 guys in a zone. shaq during the championship years never had to face that..just after he got the ball...if he faced single coverage the post entry pass is so much easier..fronting becomes harder to do against yao..and he would easily avg 25+ a game and thus "be the leader" everyone says he is. i hate the zone, not just because of Yao but it general it makes bad defensive teams look decent...it helps take stars out of the game by doubling before the catch...especially in a league where the mid-range game is non-existant.
NO! Centers are seldom the team leaders in Basketball as they do not contol the game play within the play of the team! Most great team leaders are true Point Guards who control the pace and plays of the game such as Cousey, Nash, Stockton or Jasaosn Kidd On the Rockets our team leader is a Point Forward by the name of McGrady, who is the only playmaker on the team. PS Yao Ming is a spiritual leader because of his presence and abilities!
he doesn't need to be a vocal leader. when Dream won, we had Kenny, Mario, and Vernon. They were the vocal leaders. Yao leads by his play. when he does well, it fires up the team.
yao and tmac are leaders of THIS team. but to the fans and the media, the only way they can be perceived as leaders is if they WIN. point blank. u win, people get on your jocks.
I agree with this but also that a pg usually is the leader or in our case our point forward. If Kidd were on this team, he would be the leader even though Yao and Mcgrady are better.
I really don't get why this question comes out so often... Is Yao the leader of rox now? No, I'd say that role belongs to tmac atm. Is Yao a leader? Take a look at the CNT in the past 4 years and tell me how he is not.
