Do you think we will benefit if Steve gets injured?

Before everyone bashes me, here me out first...

I am not suggesting a long term injury. Merely, something that causes him to sit on the side lines for 2 weeks to see how the offense moves without him and where the opportunities are.

I live in LA and one of the BEST things that happened to the Lakers pre-championship years was that Kobe was hurt for 3 weeks and sat on the bench watching. Afterwards, his game COMPLETELY changed and resulted in a championship. He credited the change to his injury because it gave him a chance to really watch the intangibles of the offense and helped him identify the holes in defenses etc.

It may take something like this to really spark our team and for us to play at the next level...

    Thoughts?

I don't the Rockets benefited at all from Francis' migraine-related absences last year. Did you?

No! I would like to see his playing time limited (although the option of Moochie is scary) so that he will be fresh for the end of the season.

Last year, we kinda needed Francis to play that way given the other alternatives. This year, we have many more options with the addition of Yao and with Mo T and others back from injury.

ask Vince Carter if he thought his jumper's knee was a "minor injury" when he first got it...

The part of every game that I despise the most is the 5 minute period in the 2nd quarter when Rudy always benches Francis and Yao.

The offense is pure hideousness. I fail to see how anybody could learn from watching 48 minutes of that horror. It's like last year, except with only Cat instead of Steve & Cat performing the isolations.

I think it would make things worse. Mobley would become the focal point of the offense and then he would start to think he is a legitimate 20 point scorer.

    WELL....

Mobley is a legitimate 20 point scorer. ;)

Anyhow, no the Rockets are not better off with Francis hurt...that puts too much pressure on the rest of the team, and then if Mooch starts....more massaging the ball...in other words, Francis has to stay healthy for this team to compete.

To defend myself, I will give you my reasons for the statement that I made. I KNOW that losing Steve for a stretch of games will hurt us. He is one of the best all aroudn players in the league. But I honestly feel that the Rox as a team are going to have to take a few steps back before we can move foward.

Whether you believe it or not, the 40+ pt explosion by Steve will not happen to often. Especially come play off time. With that said, we will have to have to have better offensive structure to advance in teh playoffs. Steve has continued to try to take the game into his hands without trusting the offense. Perhaps some of the fault is Rudys and some of it is his team mates BUT he is our FRANCHISE player.... He needs to point everyone in the right direction. This may be alot to ask for but again, we call him the "franchise" right?

So I am hoping that with Steve sitting on the side lines, he will find ways to help this team more.... just like what Kobe did...

    hikanoo49,

I understand what you're getting at. The thing is, too many people around have painful memories of playing last year without Stevie. It was just brutal, wasn't it? I know we have a different team this year, but still...

The other point that has been made is about injuries. A two week injury can end up being two months. Let's just hope Stevie "gets it" while he's on the court, instead of watching from the sidelines.

Hey, I agree with your analysis. And it certainly helped when Hakeem took a step back and analyzed how he could involve his teammates. But I think at this point Steve needs to learn on the court. Last year was such a nightmare, I think it hurt his growth.
