During free agency, does anyone think Lowry would have signed had he not been Morey's 4th option behind - Lebron/Melo (both were extremely unlikely anyways) and Bosh?
Absolutely. Not sure if it was cyber, or Lowry in a interview after he signed with the raps, but I remeber hearing that he was down with signing back with Houston, but the Raps offered him a contract and the Rockets where still waiting. We F'd up.
Can we finally put a stop to this thought? He's came out since and basically said it was about being the man in Toronto. He felt comfortable there and liked that he was the leader there. He didn't want to come here and be a third option, period.
You think Lowry would have given up a chance to run his own team in Canada to come back to Houston and be 3rd option? Lowry was never coming back and Morey knew it.
A story last week also said Derozan laid it out for him, his options, without bias, and that was a big factor for Lowry. In the past, Lowry also said his meeting with their GM also was a big factor. Plain and simple, he liked being the driving force behind a team, not a wheel.
definitely not what you posted and far from it. previous posters just explained what the real situation was
You can stop thinking about it if you want, but it's a fact that Lowry was interested in signing here and a fact that the Rockets told him to wait on Melo, LBJ, etc. before they would make him an offer. It's a fact that he chose to sign with Toronto rather than wait for Houston to chase big names. Your last statement is in no way factual. This is has been posted here several times but I guess it needs to be posted more.
It more like, he was open to it, but during the wait he realized Toronto was the place for him. Some fans think the waiting offended him and changed his mind, but it only reinforced what he already knew and what others were already telling him, that he wouldn't be the man here. He would have reached the same conclusion whether the Rockets pitched first or not. It's not like he would have signed that minute, without hearing out Toronto out.
What does that quote in the link prove?? That's in hindsight. He wished he would have made it work the first time around in Houston. Yes, he was interested in returning, that doesn't mean Toronto wasn't even more interesting to him. Lowry thinks he's on a Melo/Bosh level, so yeah he was bummed he didn't get star treatment from us that week, but what's more important, getting star treatment for a week or years? It wasn't happening here, but he knows he deserves it. He'll get it in Toronto.
he was not. lowry's first preference was always to stay in toronto. morey was the first to show up at lowry's doorstep. they found out what lowry wanted to do from the beginning.
If Lowry really wanted to go back to Houston, he'd be here. Obviously we'd have some cap room open for him after failing to get Bosh.
