Almost every single time, never fail, whenever I see Kobe Bryant's name mentioned on a messageboard, somebody always chirps in with some variation of the following: "He should be in jail", "He's good at raping", etc and so on. However, I nobody ever says why they really think Kobe is guilty and surely many people make those disparaging remarks based very much on the fact that they don't like him as a basketball player. So, what do you think? If the case proceeded, do you believe that Kobe should have been convicted or proclaimed not guilty, and why?
i dont think so since there was some incriminating history regarding with the girls, it reminds me of the duke lacrosse team scandal.
I hate Kobe. I think he is a dirty player and a guy I cannot respect. I think he just cheated on his wife, but didnt rape that woman. She just seemed too crazy. I still HATE kobe
At the time, the media was saying the rape laws in Colorado was one of the strictest. The woman could say no halfway and that was that. I think the victim had doubts with a non-committal no and after the fact those doubts morphed into embarrassment. Plus those multiple semen samples didn't help her case...
I don't believe for one second that he raped that girl. He cheated on his wife. He is a b*stard, and I can't stand him, but he's not a rapist.
I think those jokes are just tasteless, cheap shots directed at Kobe by posters who don't think much of him as an NBA player (not talent wise, but dislike his personality). Most people I came across (including women) didn't think he was guilty of anything other than sleeping with the girl. They all pretty much point to the girl's 'impeachable' character due to her shady past and the fact that she went to his room after hours willingly, and pretty much knew what she was walking into it. Of course, that still doesn't preclude the possibility of him raping the girl once they were alone behind closed doors, but it does make it seem more unlikely, IMO.
After the trial, Kobe did say something to the affect of....(paraphrasing here)..."I could see her point of view..."
No, the particular comments that prompted to make this thread came from a Florida Gators messageboard, but I routinely see these types of remarks about Kobe on any messageboard I visit. Myself: I don't think he was guilty. I think he is a cheater (though probably half the NBA is) and has made some questionable choices under stress (throwing Shaq under the bus by saying he pays off the girls he cheats with; getting pissed at Malone for comments made in jest towards Kobe's wife). I just don't understand why these NBA stars get married (especially young) if they know they are going to be tempted to enjoy the company of women while on the road - I guess they just want to have their cake and eat it too. As for his theoretical verdict, there are just too many red flags that come up in the rape "victim's" past for me to lend her much credibility. Unfortunately, a rape accusation, without direct or strong circumstantial evidence, tends to be an issue of he said/she said. In this case, I think the scales of justice weighed more heavily in Kobe's favor.
Actually, it was: "Although I truly believe this encounter between us was consensual, I recognize now that she did not and does not view this incident the same way I did." Most likely a scripted remark created by his PR team.
How was she after money? People say this, but a rape case isn't one where money is transferred from Person A to Person B. You think Kate would've become some celebrity? "Hey I'm the girl Kobe raped and welcome to another edition of Access Hollywood!" I don't think it was innocent, consensual sex (at first it was), but not "rape". I think this girl wasn't ready for rear entry, but who's going to say no to Kobe? It was after the fact when she told her people (parents, friends, the guy she ****ed about 3 hours later, etc.) who pressured her into speaking out reluctantly. And race was a big factor. And Kobe's still a dick.
You don't get money from the rape, case but you can file a lawsuit for emotional damages (which I think she was), and besides, I think she was trying to sell her story.
Just coffee. There's a Starbucks in every corner.... I don't care if he's innocent or guilty, but people will find reasons to hate him. To be honest, I was never a Kobe fan until I read about how dedicated he was to the game. Most ballers are just in it for the money, but him, he actually has a passion for it.
