Do you think Biggio should retire after this year?

The way he is playing....does he have any years left in him w/ this team?

Bagwell looks like he can continue until his date set (2006), but Biggio...I don't know

He's playing pretty well. By no means is this a bad season. .350 on base percentage, 44 doubles, 14 homers.

He should be a spot player....Lane is better in every facet of the game, and he is ready.

Biggio would be a great utility player..

It's not that bad, except for his arm.

    ROFLOL...

And one of the reasons that EVERYONE the Astros play goes from first to third on a single to Center.

Biggio has a rag arm....and his wheels are suspect.....

He WAS great, but he should not be counted on as an everyday player, his time has passed, he can only get worse.

Biggio has good stretches, but the full season in CF is wearing on him. Lane deserves his shot (or Beltran!!!) and Biggio could be the right hand hitting version of Blum except he could potentially backup all 8 positions.

With his salary dropping to $3m next year, it's easier to justify him being a utility player.

Can Lane hit .260 with a .350 on base? I'm not sure he can. Can he even cover center?

How would you have any idea if Jason is fast lane or slow lane to a major league career? He has been slowed by injury and looks pretty poor (except, of course, for last night's very meaningless very long flies).

You may be right, but you may not be. The jury is as out as those dingers were.

The only way it would appear Bigg is gone (retire, CB, please retire) is if he replaces the very replacable Jimy as manager next week (or at the conclusion of the season).

Why does eveyone ignore the fact that he may be the worst clutch hitter of all-time.

Biggio is so overrated and so many people don't see that. Biggio knows how to pile up the stats, but when it comes to winnin' time, it is certain he will not do anything productive.

The difference betwen biggio and the other Astro bats is that the other Astro bats will get an important hit on occasion, whereas Biggio NEVER,EVER, EVER does.

Notice how these games aginst the Giants are playoff type games, and guess what...Biggio is a cool 1 for 11 in the series.

    Bench him!

I think he will go one more season in a more reduced role, he is not the everyday CF that this team needs but he can certainly be a nice guy off the bench and the occasional starter. So I think he should go one more year and have his farewell tour than retire before he has absolutely nothing left. Plus the all-star game is in Houston next year it would be nice for the city of houston to rally behind him and get him in.

It's hard to see him in a reduced role, and with his pride, I don't know that he'd accept that.

Your exactly correct! The one thing that comes to mind when i think of Biggio is striking out every 9th inning at a slider in the dirt.

We could have had Jose Cruz jr. playing CF this year at a fraction of the cost of what Biggio is costing us. Jose and his dad both wanted him to come here. But Biggio stood in the way.

If Biggio didn't get hit by so many pitches his OBP would be around .300 which is very pathetic. Biggio's time as a starter is gone and he should be reduced to a role like Geoff Blum has.

    EXACTLY!

    1. There is no reasonable substitute in CF right now on this team. There are not a ton of CFs out there to be had that produce even as well as Craig has this season.

    2. Craig has played fantastic in September...not what I would have expected, because you generally expect older players to have a harder time later in the season...

    3. His defense in CF has improved tremendously

    4. Look at his numbers in the clutch over the course of his career...if memory serves correct, they are far better than average. He had the best numbers for clutch hitting in the league just a couple of years back.

I agree. Biggio can't produce like he once did (few can), but he's still a slightly above-average player. Plus, it's not like Jason Lane has blown anyone away. He'll be a solid major leaguer, but he can't even win a job from an out-of-position player on the decline.

Until Lane can prove he's a better solution, Biggio should be the centerfielder -- especially in the playoff hunt.

    Pgabrial,

Nope I am strictly a feel player...

Or, how about 3 dingers in 22 at bats for Lane......and a .270+ Batting average.
