35, suburbs. I would live in the country if I could (hate having neighbors) but my commute to downtown is already slowly killing me. The good news is that the Woodlands has blown up with energy jobs in the last five years. I plan to take my talents there once I have sapped my current job for all it has to offer experience-wise. Then, I will move to Magnolia or somewhere relatively close where my closest neighbor is 500 feet away and my dogs can roam my giant lot in peace.
43, no kids. Live in East Houston inside the loop. My aunt teaches for Galena Park ISD and so do many of my friends. If your kids work hard they can get a good education there.
Lol Born and raised in Houston around the Gulfgate area. Deady jr high and Milby high school. Moved out to the Clear lake area in the early 80's and then the League city and Seabrook area. Looks like I will be staying in this area for the rest of my life.
That's hilarious that he's talking **** about the suburbs and then he points out how good Memorial is. Memorial is NOT inside the loop you condescending a-hole.
Outside the Loop. I live in Austin. Before I moved here from Houston, though, I lived inside the Loop. People living outside the Loop are a dreaded species... suburbanites!!
Can you back those stats up? Even if there is any truth to it, I'd suppose that is a half truth, at best. Some HISD schools are bad but other (public) inner loop schools are tremendous such as Bellaire and Lamar. They are no where near 50% graduation rate. So its best not to dismiss an entire district based on the worst. I'm inside the loop and can walk to the museum district with my kids and often ride my bike to work (15 min by car or bike).
I'm not exactly sure how they measure the graduation rates but here are the comparisons done by the Texas Education Agency. I think it's actually a measure of some indicators so the numbers aren't exact but it gives you an idea. http://ritter.tea.state.tx.us/perfreport/account/2013/srch.html?srch=D Fort Bend ISD - 90% graduation rate Klein ISD - 89% graduation rate Cy-Fair - 89% Conroe - 89% Humble - 88% Houston ISD - 55% Given that HISD has hundreds of schools and you list two that are located in neighborhoods that average nearly million dollar houses, that is quite telling.
Under a freeway pass. That's me cleaning your windows. Texxx that emancipator piece isn't cutting it. Put down for an Andrew Jackson next time.
It seemed like this thread was about living in the suburbs vs. the city in general, that's what my initial comment about schools referred to. Since da1's already cried racism at least twice before in transit threads, I responded to his idiotic jab with graduation rates that matches campuses and schools in large urban environments in general. I don't know and have never scrutinized HISD grad rates; but the 25% - 50% fits several overcrowded urban public schools and some districts around the country.
How the hell did HISD get that bad? I made it through HISD with good enough grades to get through college and if I can do it most anyone can.
No, I'm in my 20s, but like I said, I grew up my whole life in the loop. I wouldn't want my kids to have it differently. I hate the suburbs.
