Until this year I had not met an illegal, undocumented, unlawfully present immigrant. PS - the guy at Burger King who takes your order or the guy who mows your lawn does not count unless he told you he crossed the desert or river
I've never asked anyone's immigration status but I've met and worked with several people who I would strongly suspect are. I went to college with a guy who said he was the son of illegals but I never met his parents.
Yeah until this year I had never asked but I intern for a non profit and so I've gotten to know many undocumented people (using the word illegal is a no no around here). Know as in you consider a friend...if you biblically know an illegal, marry and legalize her
if they are not here legally they are illegal there aint no middle ground you either got here illegally or legally. screw the PC nonsense.....there aint no preferred nomenclature in this case, they are called by the word that describes the method of their entry into this country. and yes...I have known illegals in my life, my stepdad used to run a lawncare business, and hired illegal aliens.....but at least he stressed to them the importance of tryin to use legal avenues to make themselves citizens once they were here. doesnt make it right of course, but I know for a fact we got at least a half dozen honest, hardworking citizens from guys that started out as illegals.
My old boss has two guys that I would call servants. He gives them an apartment in his equipment storage building, a truck, and few hundred dollars/week and they did basically whatever he needed. (He owns several businesses from carwashes to lawncare to car auction, as well as a lot of rental property.) I found out early on that they were illegal, although they certainly had papers. I think he was willfully ignorant of that fact.
I know several people here illegally. I've worked with a few and known others. I know one at the moment who has been trying for FIVE YEARS to gain citizenship. Her work visa ran out last year even though her husband still has his work visa and all her daughters were born here. She and her husband spend a few thousand dollars every year and continue to wait. They both work extremely hard. She's actually trained in a technical profession but can't get a job. Most of their relatives are US citizens and they've both been working in the US for nearly 10 years. They actually want to be Americans. They speak perfect English, have good skills and relatives here. Why they can't get citizenship is just bizarre to me.
That's pretty much what I do. We help them become legal...our clients are mostly female (VAWA). I like working with kids. Today I was at the SS office with kids getting them cards with their new legal status...they're too young to understand what today means for them.
Lol... "Seriously, you guys... Come on. Try to obtain legal status. For now I'm going to exploi...er let you explore some of this country's many possible, lucrative occupations. Like trimming hedges, for instance. Okay, go trim them. Corte, corte, Miguel."
I think we are all illegal, we stole this land from the Indians. I mean Native Americans, or is it native western continentals. If we were going to be super literal we stole this land from the Asians because they are the ones who came across the baring straight. But then if we go that far back, they descended from Adam and Eve so this means the Jews have something else to be pissed about. Damn America, we are a horrible country for what we did to the Jews.
