The thread about "cool feelings" got me started on this.

I have this strange and very unpredictable ability to control some of my dreams. I'll give you a for instance. I was having a bad dream one night, something about someone chasing me through dark streets, in a dark robe, etc. This was the first time it happened, and I was about 10. But in the middle of my dream, I thought to myself (still asleep and dreaming through this) that I knew it was a dream. So this thing chasing me could not hurt me, so I turned around and faced it. It kept gliding toward me. It went to strike me with a knife or something, and it went through me, did not hurt me. I began to yell at this thing, and proceeded to chase it off - laughing as I did so.

I woke up very freaked out, but also very pleased.

I have been able to do similar things in a variety of dream instances. I even turned one into a sex dream once. EEEK!!!!

Anyway, have you ever experienced anything like this?

I think I have done that once or twice. I can't really remember much though. I only remember asking someone in my dream if this was a dream and they said yes, but then I think I woke up. I may have done something else in the dream, but I think I just woke up.

I sometimes know it's a dream, but I don't consciously have any control over my dreams.

Here's the best though: When I was working at Lightspeed, I got to working long hours and working really intensely while I was there. So much so that I'd dream about it. But these weren't just dreams about the place -- I'd start doing work in my dreams -- fixing computers and stuff in my sleep. I'd even think about being awake in my dreams, how I would need to finish some computer before I can wake up. I actually still have that problem, just not as much. The thing is, it is a real pain sometimes because I'll dream myself doing something, and it'll be so vivid that I don't remember if I actually did it or it was a dream. This is almost always work-related stuff, and it's almost stopped since I started watching Frasier and Seinfeld before I go to sleep.

Man, you're lucky HOOP-T! I rarely ever dream, much less have the power to control it and turn it into a sex scene.:(

I've had intriguing dreams many times. I mentioned one of them in Friendly Fan's "cool feelings" thread.

If you work at it, some people can learn to occasionally have some control over "lucid" dreams. Writing anything you can remember about a dream as soon as you wake up can help increase your dream memories. And that can lead to "recognizing" that you are dreaming while still in the dream... the first step towards having some control over them.

HOOP-T, you seem to be one of those who just "fell into it". :)

I can't control my dreams but I can influence them. Everything can be spiraling downwards and I'll want things to improve and they do. I'm not in complete control of what I dream about, but I can influence them if I'm at a certain level of conscience.

Yes, I usually do that all the time. One time I was dreaming about dating this hot girl in my class, and when I realize it just a dream, I made her take all her cloths off and ....................... :)

Anyways, it's pretty cool when you have control over dreams, I haven't done it for a long times since I've been busy lately, haven't had a good night sleep.

I do if you count having the ability to know you are dreaming and to wake when needed,

Yup, I've been able to do that for a long time, although I've noticed that the older I get, the less I dream. Or remember it, I don't know.

But since I was six, I stopped having bad dreams, cause I could always wake myself from them. In my dream I'd just make myself rub my eyes, and I'd do it in real life and wake up. But when in my dream, the bad guy prevented me from rubbing my eyes somehow, then I was in real trouble...

HOOP-T is describing "dream control." It is not synonomous with Lucid Dreaming.

So much for your memory of Psych 101. hehe

Ugh, work dreams are the worst. I've always had them not long after starting a new job. You wake up just as exhausted as you were when you went to sleep...

I can do this everyonce and while, but what can be really cool is when I wake up and think about. I decide what I want to do in the dream. Then if I lay back down in the same position that I woke up in I can get back into the dream and do what I wanted to.

Actually he was describing both, and being lucid enhances your dream control. I took more than just Psych 101 while at Rice. I've spent hundreds of hours studying in Sewall Hall, thank you very much.

When I realize it is a dream, I wake up.

In my dreams I am usually walking or running, and I just stop and say, this is a dream. And I wake up.

I have never told this to anyone outside my fmaily because it brings up visions of some idiot trying to scame people for money....but....

    I dream about the future.

Now before you laugh...hear me out. :D

95% of the time its nothing special. I'll walk in a room, someone will ask me to get them something, they'll be watching a TV show and I just remember what happened from a dream and Im watching it happen infront of me. I can actually know what a person is about to say to me (Only a few words!) and I sometimes try to change things and let the person know Ive had a dream about what they are doing. (I hope that made sense!)

The other 5% of the time I dream about big things. Things that dont happen to me.

I dont really want to go into it because it might upset some people or cause problems. But when these things happen.....its not a good feeling.

Now Im not a person that has their head in the clouds. If someone told me this sort of thing I'd laugh at them. lets face it. If someone says they dream about the future Im taking them to the race track to make a bit of cash out of them! :D

I am also willing to admit that my mind might just be playing tricks on me, or Im connecting dots to much.

Anyway I thought I'd share that with you lot. :)

I can do lucid dreaming; it's great fun. First you have to realize that you're dreaming. Sometimes when things are happening that aren't making sense, I think, "this has got to be a dream. Is it?" (And I know it probably is; when I'm awake, I would always know for sure that I was awake. So, if I think I'm dreaming, I almost certainly am.)

So I check the clocks. It's my little signal to myself that I could be dreaming: I look around the room and find a clock, and see what it says. The clocks never make sense. They might have letters instead of numbers, or weird symbols, or a number that can't possibly be an actual time. Or the time will change radically every time I look back at it.

Over time, I've learned to enjoy this. I say, "OK, cool, I'm dreaming. In other words, I can do whatever I want and it won't matter." So I usually.... ummm, never mind. :D All sorts of wild and crazy behavior, since it's my one chance to actually do it. Hey, why not. It's not real and it won't actually matter. I find myself hoping I won't wake up anytime soon.

I probably have some control over the surroundings that I imagine; often in the dream I just take off running, exploring, and see where I end up going. On the other hand, often I am looking for people and don't find them. So I can't control that. I would go looking for a guy I had a crush on, for example. I may find others, but not that particular one. These are always situations in which (in real life) it was never going to work. Maybe my subconscious was trying to tell me it was a lost cause. :)

But one time I did manage to use some sort of dream control; it was in high school, when I had my recurring dream again. This was the dream about being set down in some public place (school or a house full of people) without a stitch of clothing on. Wondering how I could have possibly forgotten to put my clothes on. Nobody ever acts like they notice in those dreams, but of course you know they do, and you're trying desperately to cover up or hide. Finally, this time, I had the dream and it was set in my high school cafeteria. I wasn't as good at lucid dreaming then (otherwise, I would probably be like, "I'm not wearing anything, so what?"). But I realized I was dreaming and wanted to change my luck. So I started rummaging around among everybody's bags on the table, hoping I would find some clothes. Guess what - I found a set of clothes in a bag and put them on. Didn't have that dream again for many years.

Think of lucid dreaming as an opportunity for great fun and adventure (and it's probably normal and natural to turn it into a sex dream). It's not like it's real or anything. No one has to know.

(And, for those who predict the future in dreams: it's probably just your brain projecting things that are likely to happen. Probably. If not - well, that's really spooky, but when can we take you to the racetrack? :) )
