i know he's had a very disappointing season. hopefully due to his injury earlier in the season. but i wouldnt mind keeping him. if we dont bring him back, then we are definitely going to need to sign some proven quality starters for next season.
If he can't get us prospects, then I agree with you. Nothing more than $10 million...and I'm pretty sure that's too much.
4/50 is probably the highest I'd go for him (and that is already overpaying), but since we still need another starter after this season anyways and Jennings is only 28 and had some flashes of success. Of course, I'm all up for trading him if it means getting some solid players in return.
Nope, I want pitchers that vary speed on their pitches, he throws almost everything within the 79-87mph range. I think getting him was a massive mistake. DD
Trade him now. Someone can use him that actually has a chance. No way would I give him 4 years/$50MM like the other poster suggested
stupid stupid trade. was stupid from the beginning, is stupid today and will be stupid in the future.
i hate to say it...but i agree. i don't think it's worth bringing him back. these deals aren't done in a bubble. price always matters. he's not worth what i think he might be able to get on the market.
Only if he agrees to Roger Clemens' workout regimen. Jennings could barely jog up the first base line last night.
Yes, but a lot of people have been saying he is more ideal in right, with someone speedier and with a stronger arm in center (Minute Park is small in right, huge in center).
A lot of people = Ric? But, in all seriousness, has anybody actually seen Pence have a trouble getting to balls? He may not always take the absolute greatest route... but his speed/athleticism still allows him to make the play. Willy T was possibly WORSE with his routes when he started, but also had more speed to make up for it. As for the arm, yes... if you find a defensive wiz CF who has a cannon for an arm, and isn't inadequate at the plate (we still have Everett), he's an upgrade. Otherwise, I'll take my chances with Pence's bat, and adequate defense... combined with a RF upgrade to Scott/Lane (but that's assuming offense will be the name of the game this off-season... my guess is it will be pitching/player development issues).
Nick, fair enough. Maybe it was just Ric. But a RF upgarade will probably prove just as hard to find.
I voted "for the right price" but I should have voted for trade him now. The only reason I'd want to keep Jennings is to give reason for the trade in the first place. If he just leaves after the season it'da been an absolute waste. Things could have been better but it just isnt now, so...trade him now while they still have him, and get something to show for the deal instead of taking the chance of him walking.
I put yes because I don't think he'll command much on the open market. I mean, I don't want the Astros to spend Oswalt $$ on him, but I think that's obvious. I think "maybe, depends on price" means you're willing to pay him 3-4 mil per year... I'm thinking we should go higher. Maybe 6ish.
