Do you find it annoying when our players try to flop instead of play like a man?

I'm annoyed by Scola and Martin since they flop a lot...Martin especially, why is he playing for the whistle instead of playing straight up ball? Its annoying and its costing us necessary plays where we want him to come through instead he flops around like a fish

Add Lowry and Battier to that list.

Hate how Bullard complains so much about flopping but the Rockets' are one of the most flopping teams in the league and Bullard doesn't say ****.

flopping on defense (especially if no contact), definitely. flopping on offense to sell the foul, no.

It drives me nuts. I hate what Kevin Martin does on offense too -- that should never be a foul.

I believe in fighting fire with fire. Until everyone else stops flopping in the league, our players should have the green light to flop.

This league has been wussified. I wish they would bring back the handcheck on defense. On offense, players like martin do that because they're accustomed by the refs giving them those calls.
Martin needs to realize that he is now a Rocket. You're not getting those calls when the game is in the balance.
yao played like a man, scratches everywhere..all it took to keep yao in check was for an annoying owner to make a phone call to the league. The entire league sucks. But I love my city and as long as we have a team, I will continue to support the rockets.

Another thing I find annoying is when players go past their average in points when they play us, like jason terry and their other midget guard.

Trying to tell y'all...the Rockets have been flopping since JVG's last season here.

Chuck and Battier started flopping before Scola, Martin and Lowry got here.

The only ones that do it can't jump. Sort of makes sense.

The difference is chuck and shane don't often flop under the rim unless they have a good shot at a charge (they're outside the area). Their flopping is much more logical. What i don't like is Scola flopping when he's literally under the rim and there's zero chance at a charge call or when Lowry flops on the perimter and leaves his man standing to continue to the paint. If you're flopping defensively your man better be going to the floor too or be out of control. Otherwise you're leaving them with a wide open path.

Offensively the refs havent been calling it as much lately. I'm pretty sure a team complained, probably sent tape to the league. They're not getting the head fake-lean in calls much, if at all. Gotta stop that unless you can get contact without leaning much.

    I agree Scola flops.

But wrt Martin, since when is a head fake a flop? It's actually a necessary skill of a low post player. Why can a PF get fouls off of head fakes, getting their man into the air, but a SG is called a flopper.

Most fouls on Martin are across his arms, or he gets someone to jump into him. It's not like Lowry where he's dribbling into players looking for a bail out.

The head fake actually helps him get separation for his weird shot; that is, when the defender stays down, for fear of a fake, Martin can shoot over him.

Maybe it's just because I hate the defensive flops and offensive ones where you get a bs blocking call or you're recklessly driving into someone with no plan to really attempt the basket, looking for a bailout.

I've yet to see Martin flop to get a blocking call or recklessly drive into someone ala Lowry. Anything from a head fake getting the defender off the ground and getting them to hit your arms is OK with me. The worse he does is fall backwards off a head fake like Reggie Miller. But he makes enough of those shots or legitimately gets the defender to hit his arms, that I don't mind. Maybe someone can post one, but I don't recall a Miller-esque foul on his foot.

The 'Durant' move -- finding a defender with his hands extended toward you and getting your arms under his and going up into them as a shooting motion -- is NOT a foul. The defender has the right to be in that space.. it shouldn't be a foul if you get your arms under mine and come up. It's ridiculous that has become such a common foul called.

Martin intentionally drives into the defender and then flops back when he feels a hair of contact. It is absolutely flopping.

I also don't think it should be a foul when the offensive player intentionally jumps into a defender. It should be a non-call -- and you especially shouldn't get FTs just because you heard a whistle and threw up a wild shot you never had any intention of taking.

Argh. I just hate flopping.. and it has taken over the game. Thanks Europe.

I don't like it. I bet opposing players and teams really hate it. Sometimes the camera catches them talking mess. Last night you could see Ariza saying something about Lowry and Jarrett Jack and Chris Paul about Martin. Martin just smirks...

I've noticed it more these last two season more then ever. It might be cause we are so under manned that they feel like they have to do everyting and anything to gain an advatage on other teams.

    LongTimeFan,

Debating whether the "Durant Call" is a foul or not, isn't a question of flopping. Right? That's all I'm saying. It's merely debating whether it's a foul.

I don't want to argue this. I'm fine with your take. I'm just clarifying mine.

One thing that is usually common with floppers is they will flop in all circumstances-- on defense, trying to get blocking calls, offense without the ball, driving into ppl. They will use all the opportunities to get a whistle--not just when they have the ball. Martin doesn't flop in all those circustances, does he? All his "flops" are part of legitimate scoring attempts (where he often gets AND1s) to include establishing his head fake by making the defender pay, and by doing so he later gains separation when the defender starts staying down. His "flops" are not defensive, not trying to get bs non-shooting calls, not without the ball, etc. He doesn't strike me as a egregious flopper doing it all over the court.

He strikes me as someone who is mainly trying to establish a head fake, and when driving he extends his arms for contact.

Example: Reggie Miller used to dive when going around picks without the ball. I don't see Martin doing that. Ginobody dives while dribbling to get bullS!t blocking calls on his defender. I don't see Martin looking to fake a blocking call. And he isn't flopping all over the defensive end.
