All successful teams go out and find a good coach, hire him, give him the tools and the time to get the players that serve his style and hope for the best. The Spurs did it with Popovich, the Bulls and the Lakers did it with Jackson and Reily before that, the Pistons did it with Brown, and our beloved ROX did it with Rudy T.

In recent memory JVG got the tools and the time to take the ROX to the promise land and we all know the outcome of his tenure.

What I am saying here is if Adelman struggles trying to do something with this team and we know he is a good coach, should we or should we not wait until he assembles a new team to fit his style?

By the way, 4 out of 5 current starters are still JVG type of players and only 4 out of 14 current players on the roster are new players (predominantly rookies). Last year when the team played Adelman's style they went on one of the best winning records and most entertaining games in franchise and league history.

the team we have can fit his style, its more on the players to follow through and trust in the system instead of going 1 on 1 every single critical play down the stretch.

ball movement/player movement makes the game flow better. i hate seeing one person dominate the ball unless its rafer setting up the play. i don't mind yao getting the ball and working down low but if he's covered then he needs to pass it out and not force a crap shot when theres no rebounding in the game.

i understand brooks needs to be aggressive but burning the shot clock for 20 seconds then passing it is just crap. our players need to run around screens and cut to the basket not stand still.

i disagree, firing coaches left and right do not always fix the situation. i agree with what malone said that teams around the league need to start making players more accountable instead of the coaches.

Rick should get into some players for not playing hard enough or missing their defensive assignments but not to the extent that JVG and Avery Johnson are known for.

A very fair question. It starts from up top first off. It can go either way players or coach. The people the hiring the coach need to be fair and honest with what they have. The Pittsburgh Steelers always seem to have continuity cuz they keep bringing in guys that fit their way of play.

You cant bring in a shotgun offense coach with a bunch of triple-option run oriented players, unless you're gonna be a year or 2 more patient for the complete change to come.

There's usually just a handful of coaches who's philosophies are a 180 from the previous one though. Its not like Rick Carlisle is some complete opposite of Avery Johnson. I think Adelman is a decently balanced coach dispite his title as offensive mastermind. But if the owner wanted "Phoenix Suns" style fast paced ball, HOW do you get that to happen with a big clumsly slow 7-6 center on your team?

Two good posts so far from you :) I completely agree, firing coaches is usually the first thing to happen but often not the right thing to do.

There are a tier of quality coaches who rarely deserve to be fired.

i think this is mathematical problems.i mean we should know a good coach should fit this team ,not a team fit a coach.
because i think tactical should build on the existing players, not a coach bring a off-the-shelf tactical ,and let all players fit it,maybe some main players dont fit it .
there is a saying in political science, circumstances alter cases.
Do not copy mechanically and apply indiscriminately.

You can't argue that this team cannot fit the coach, we have seen glimpses that this team works wellw ith Coach Adelman. Hell last years 22 game win streak is tantamount to the fact that this team fits. The only problem is the fact that our players were going in and out of the lineup not building any chemistry.

The only key difference from this year and last year is Ron Artest. Everything else is the same. Brooks is taking Jackson's spot as back PG. Barry takes Novak's spot as the sharpshooter. Everything else is the same but Artest and McGrady's health.

Let TMac sit until he is FULLY healthy, not healthy enough to try to work into game shape. I mean healthy 100% healthy. I know hes not going to be the scoring champion. But he needs to be mentally and physically healthy, otherwise he is dead weight.

My solution to our current problems is let TMac rest, start Wafer or Barry as the SG. Battier needs to work on getting his shot back and he will stay starting SF.

Try to swing a trade using Artest, package Head and Landry with Artest if you must. I understand hes our 2nd best player right now, but he simply does not fit in with our team at the moment. Trading Artest frees up time for Barry and Wafer as well as allowing better ball movement. I hate to say it but he is a ball stopper. Its great when he makes his shots but the nights when Artest is cold, it hurts the team.

Getting a consistent starting lineup + rotation builds chemistry. We are good enough to make the playoffs, and if we build chemistry we can advance in the playoffs, with or WITHOUT TMac and Artest. It is a matter of working on chemistry and following the gameplan.

If the right deal cannot be had, I do not mind keeping Ron, however he needs to fit into the team, not make the team fit him.

-A great coach takes the talent and maximizes it.
-A great college/high school coach has a team built around their philosophy.

Poppovich is now a system coach. But the team and system was established first. I guarantee you he could adapt if needed.

    Well stated....

A good coach can keep his system, but he must understand that he has to adapt to the players around him.

As much people don't like Phil Jackson he has modified his triangle offense to fit his players. He ran the triangle one with Jordan and then modified it when he had Shaq and Kobe and modifed it again with just Kobe.

But with that stated... The players must also buy into the Coach's system and sometimes it seems as if they have not full bought into Rick's system which is totally different from Pop and the spurs, where as Ziggy stated the system is already in place.

Ya gotta play the hand yer dealt! Any coach worth a damn, takes the pieces at his disposal, play to strengths and compensates for the weaknesses. These coaches with their 'systems'.. blah blah blah...build toward what u want - in the meantime - make what u got work!

i think rick has done the best job he can considering the fact that people were in and out so much for the first 40 games.

barring another injury to yao, we should be improving after the allstar break.

We just don't have the players for Adelman's offense. I don't see any viable comparison's to the ol' Kings team. Scola is not Webber, T-mac is not Peja, Shane is not Doug and Yao is a different player than Divac.

I think Adelman is used to the ball going through a quick PF, but he's had to adjust to the ball going through Yao.

    It's different.

Bring back Rudy T! Kidding...Adelman is a proven coach. I trust his judgment despite the team's shortfallings.

agree but bottom line, he stayed with his core plan "triangle offense" and over time he was able to add peaces that fit his offense in Gasol, Odom, Ariza, Vuiacic, and so forth.

Good coaches can coach any team. The coach should always be able to adapt to the team. Bad coaches only coach in their comfort zone.

but what if the the players you have have had many chances and they are just not getting it done? do you continue with the coach replacement strategy or at some point you just have to think about changing the players?

I have to disagree, Jackson, did not do well with the Lakers after the Shaq/Bryant era becasue he just did not have the players that fit his style and there was no way that a Suns team with Shaq and without Marion was going to fit Dantoni's style.
