Do you believe in God (any God i.e.Christian,Muslim, etc) and why. I must stress that this is a serious question an ask that everyone discuss this in an intelligent and rational manner. Please avoid ad hominem attacks.
I personally think it is somewhat irresponsible to not believe in any form of God. You have nothing to loose by having faith in some type of higher power.
I'm a deist. So sure, I do believe in God. It's dumb not to. Believing in something is better than telling yourself you came from nothing.
Yes, Because I simply do not think everything that exists in nature and in this universe can just be some sort of "accident".
I didnt say it was dumb, i said it was irresponsible. Believing in some form of a God cannot hurt you in any way, however not believing in any kind of god could be potentially horrible. No harm can be done in having faith in some kind of a higher power
Mine either. The version of Christianiy I was raised in would be horrified at Christians starting and steadfastly cheering on our Iraq War.
Rich Mullins (and whoever wrote the Apostles' Creed) said it more poetically than I can: <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/aHWoDwxyKUE"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/aHWoDwxyKUE" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>
Sorry, the "dumb" statement was said by redefined. My apologies. How can not believing in a God be anymore horrible than the actions of those who believe in God?
This argument can go both ways. Most war in history were carried out under the name of God. So how about just keep this thread to express why you believe or not believe in God and not trying to convert anybody.
I think God, or the idea of God is positive and negative at the same time, because Gods word is used on the weak of mind, for good and evil. Great things are done in Gods name and terrible things are done in Gods name. It is up to the person to look within themselves and know what is right and wrong. I personally do not believe in God, because i don't feel i need to. At the same time, when i see a person who turns their life around through the church, i think it has served its purpose, to provide guidance for those who feel they need it, and i can't fault anyone for that. My beef is with organised religion and the way it has twisted, skewed and distorted Gods word to make people do terrible things and live life with unrealistic expectations.
Pascal's Wager has many flaws. Instead of listing them myself, I'll direct you to a reference: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pascal's_Wager Don't pull that 17th century ****. It's been overdone and overanalyzed and many flaws have been found.
