So, what do you guys think ?

And personally I don't know get it why JVG said this team won't go to him as often now that TMAC comes back. Is he foregoing the inside-out game plan ? Why not go to Yao Ming more often, let him do the things in the interior, and if he gets double and triple-teamed, then pass the ball out for those sharp-shooters aka Novak, Padgett, TMAC, Rafer or whoever shooting the mid-range jumpers, or out from the perimeter those 3-pointers ??

When you compare Yao's final 15 games last season to the upcoming season (which includes Tracy in the lineup), obviously Tracy will soak up some of Yao's FG attempts. Late last year, the Rockets had NOBODY on offense worth a dime and Yao was the sole option. JVG wants Yao to retain his attack mentality but with more talent around him, Yao's % of our total FG attempts will definitely go down.

Before we get to this topic, make sure Yao's shoes are protecting his legs/feet first

I think Yao has made great strides in his aggressiveness. Now he needs the scorers mentality. And I'm not crazy about Yao going for so many turnaround jumpshots. He's reached the level where he can back his man down, maybe go for a fake, and attack the board for a decent hook or the layup. And I'm talking about the typical layup that Yao does because he's 7'6. In fact in many cases I think his jump shot is more likely to be blocked since he has such a short vertical in his jumpshot.

I don't think the game plan was ever inside-outside once T-Mac came on board. At least the first year, when T-Mac and Yao were healthy, Yao kind of became a garbage man and just dunked off feeds from T-Mac. I really really wish that never happens again. That's the kind of stuff that the haters/racists feed off of.

I guess JVG is just talking about reality... even when Shaq was the MDE Kobe got a large chunk of the touches as well (of course this pissed off Shaq, but that's beside the point). I think the reality is that with McGrady back, he will be a strong option on offense so he will get iso's other plays designed for him (rolling off screen for jump shot, etc.) At the end of last year clearly there was nobody worth running plays for except Yao. This is not the case this year.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see Yao score 30 points a game. But I think JVG is reflecting the reality of the situation.

More talent doesn't neccesarily have to equal less scoring opportunities. Sure, Houston won't be posting and re-posting Yao Ming up as often as they did late last season, but unlike last year, Yao has other players that'll be able to create scoring opportunities for him, so even if his attempts do go down, his FG% might increase.

I dont think so, with the hand checkin rule nba has became perimeter player league not big-men league. I think we need t-mac to dominate more than yao in order to win more games!

I think Yao will improve, but McGrady has the most to show and it will be the year T-Mac is finally back to school these new kids the media thinks are better than him.

    MIXED MESSAGES!!!
I wonder if JVG ever remembers what he says from day to day?
A few days ago he was telling Yao Ming to be a
    SCORING MACHINE
Now he expecting Yao Ming to play a more subdued role and for
fans not to expect great stats from this season.
WHICH IS IT LEADER OR ROLE PLAYER?? :p

Mc Grady has no need to show that he is a great one, rather he needs to show that his health is ok and that his mind is strong enough to play the whole season and come on strong in the playoffs.
