From the Chronicle: Utah owner would consider name sale -- Jazz owner Larry Miller said he would consider selling the team's nickname to the New Orleans Hornets. The original team, the New Orleans Jazz, moved to Salt Lake City in 1979 and took the nickname with it.
They should have never taken the name with them to begin with. Jeez, the Utah Jazz? I bet there isn't a single jazz club in the state. And taking the colors of New Orleans (Yellow, Green and Purple) was just wrong as well. Sell it back to them? I think New Orleans should give him the middle finger. But on that note, here are some potential names for Utah's basketball team that they should consider in case New Orleans does reclaim it's name: 1. The Mormons 2. The Salt-Lickers 3. The Salt Lake City Utahians 4. The U-Tah U-Haulers 5. The Azz 6. The NRAers 7. The Homophobics 8. The Gamblers and Sinners (just in case Las Vegas decides to get a team) 9. and my favorite.... the Utah Pinocoladas (hey, it makes about as much sense as Jazz doesn't it?)
No matter what they do they are the same team.Although they execute plays well they are a dirty ball club with the worst fans anywhere. I'm always going to dislike them.
I would embrace the New Orleans Jazz and still hate the hell out of Utah. What would they change thier name to, seriously? It would make sense for them to buy the Grizzlies name so that they could become the Memphis Blues or something. It won't work since Grizzlies are extinct in Utah.
I would hate the Jazz even if they moved to Afghanistan....they are a thorn in the Rockets side and it will always be FOREVER!!!

I'm glad this thread was started....I HATE THE UTAH JAZZ!!! How about the Utah Bridesmaids??!? or the Utah SSX'ers?? or the Utah GrapeSmugglers?? (the unis could have a pic of grapes that are jammed tightly into a bag that probably way too small to hold those grapes). Man...I can't wait for The Revival!
I hardly think that Utah is a place where you will find "pinko commie hippies." I don't even think there is such thing as a pinko commie hippie. They'd probably have the gall to call themselves the Salt Lakers. Pioneers make sense.
No, I will continue to hate the Utah franchise, but I think it would be stupid to sell the Jazz name back to New Orleans since everyone knows the Utah Jazz. That would be like the Los Angeles Lakers selling their name back to Minnesota. If I'm the owner of the Hornets franchise, I leave the name as is just like the Memphis owner is keeping Grizzlies. Soon enough we will hate the Hornets after realignment.
Any team that harbors a$$ clowns like John Stockton and Karl Malone---experts at playing nice family men to the refs while mugging their opponents---will always be on my bad side. F***'em.
being a lousiana native,...i love the idea of the Jazz moniker going to its true home and i too would embrace the New Orleans Jazz. as a true Houston Rockets Fan, i hate and will always and forever hate the world's biggest Floppers & over-actors that are the Utah Franchise whatever they call themselves. they are a boil on the A** of the NBA and should be removed w/o anthsteshia as quickly as possible. i second the vote of the new nickname of the Utah franchise to be the Utah Floppers.
