With the Garnett trade, it appears that the Wolves will be looking to trade away or simply buy out some of the vets that have accumulated on their roster. Juwan Howard, in particular, seems primed for a buyout. If we can sign him back for the veteran's minimum, that would be kind of nifty. It's almost like we would have gotten Mike James for free (like Scola, Butler). But I'm wondering if it would be worth it to add another contract (however small) for a player who might just be redundant anyways. I just thought it would be a potentially interesting scenario.
Rockets need to get rid of people, not bring in more people. We have like 100 guys on our team at this moment!
I would be in favor of it for the minimum. He's a clubhouse leader and would be good be for a little bit of bench warming and cheerleading.
No!!!!!! I hate this guy ,he might be the ugliest player ever to play this game . And seriously, why do we need him? Yao plays better with Hayes, and he won't add anything valuable to this team...
no..noo...and an extra HELL NO, this should be in "random trade suggestions" along with the other ridiculous posts in there
Hilarious! Rockets have pretty much restocked at the PF position with several players better than JHo at this point in his career. No thanks, I'll take Scola, Hayes, Butler, Landry, Reed any day over JHo.
I think we should add one more big to the roster (preferably via trade), because Scola is (whatever our expectations) unproven at the NBA level, Mutombo is ancient, and Butler is also largely unproven on a good team. I agree that Juwan was somewhat of a burden with a 5 million/year contract. But at the minimum, it's not a bad deal at all. The problem is you'd be adding yet another contract when we really need to be cutting salary. Also, we should probably be looking for more of a rebounder/defender. I guess the idea of reacquiring Juwan and making Mike James yet another "something-for-nothing" acquisition was sort of appealing. Does anyone out there actually support such a move? I know some posters were questioning us trading away Juwan Howard for James in light of the Steve Francis signing.
The only way I like JHo is if he comes back for the coaches' minimum and we designate him as the primary high-five-giver, big-play-hugger, and wet-spot-scrubber-upper. Oh wait, that last one only happens in college hoops.
1. For a low dollar deal, you can do much worse than Juwan Howard. 2. I doubt he actually gets bought out. Unlike, say, Troy Hudson, Juwan is a very good team leader and a stabilizing mentor type guy for young players. In fact, he got a lot of praise for helping a horrible Denver team hold together after he got traded for Raef Lafrentz. Given the young Wolves will likely have a hard time winning games, I'd think they want to keep a guy like Juwan Howard around to help things positive. 3. Also, if he does get bought out, I'd think there will be a team that has more minutes for him to play. Maybe he'll join his buddy KG in Boston (they are pretty thin and can use a guy who has a clue to fill some minutes)? Philly's frontline can also probably use him as Joe Smith replacement.
I'm fine with signing Howard for the minimum, in fact, it would shore up our PF position, which is still a weakness. But... I don't think they're going to buy him out, because they just traded for him, and because he is not a malcontent, like Hudson was.
After 5 minutes of practice time, Scola should be able to do everything in the NBA Juwan can. We need a big, physical PF to round out the roster, not a finesse guy who's running on fumes. With Rafer (and maybe Luther) on the block, I'm hopeful Morey can work a trade to get us a better player than Juwan.
