Sorry guys, for some reason the first thread didn't post so if it is posted twice please lock one. Thanks,

We are 8th in the NBA in scoring.

But 21st on points scored on us.

There will be a rate of diminishing return on our offense if both Chris Bosh and Yao ming are in our team. For example, if lets say we're 20th in offensive points scored and then we add both yao and bosh to our roster we would probably go up 10 slots. But since we are already 8th we might go up 2 or maybe 3. Since we already have great offense, when bosh or yao are taking shots they are taking from our great offense so the difference in scoring potential is significantly reduced.

So is adding Bosh really a good idea. I don't think that you can purely outscore a team to a championship. A balance needs to be made with defense and offense.

The beautiful thing about having high quality centers like yao is that they give you both offense and defense. Both our offense and defense will improve by adding yao next year. This is why I don't think we need bosh in our team. We need a solid lock down defender who is not an offensive liability but doesn't have to put up 15-25pts per game.

Don't get me wrong, it will be an amazing year with bosh, yao, martin, and brooks (assuming we trade scole and some). But our defense will be horrendous. Especially since battier is getting older.

Having yao, martin, and brooks with a solid bench and a great defense will give us a much better chance to a championship.

    What do you guys think?

Do we really need Bosh or do we need a great defender with an average offensive game?

    Please excuse my lackluster writing

i think our defense would get quite a bit better with all that length in the front court. and then our starting frontcourt from this season would then be the bench.

but in saying that i dont want bosh i prefer to keep jordan hill. i think people are really going to be happy where he is at in a few seasons if the rockets keep him.

Don't need Bosh, not to mention, does no one think that all his stats are going to take a hit when he starts playing the loaded Western conference teams more frequently?

what's funny about this "bosh can't play defense" argument is that some fans act like he would be replacing a great defensive PF. scola is great at a lot of things, but defense isn't one of them.

bosh will be an improvement on defense at the 4 as well as offense. with yao back, even with a minutes restriction, our defense would get a huge boost. if the rockets can draft a shot blocking center as well, they might have the best group of post players in the league.

Sure, I agree that it will be better by just the size of bosh but intrinsically, he is not a good defender. Also, if we do acquire him, we are not doing so for his defense and I think it would be a mistake to substitute his offense for brook's offense or yao's or martin's. Having a starting line up of bosh/yao/martin/brooks is freakin sick but we would get more impact for our money if we get an in your face defender.

I think we need Bosh. I simply do not believe we can go to war in the playoffs next year relying on Yao. Too much heartbreak in recent years already. We need another dominate front court player.

The problem I have is that it may take a while for Hill to develop, if Yao is going to be in the league a few more years our window of opportunity is now.

The poll doesn't give enough choices. Bosh isn't being target simply as an offensive upgrade. Bosh will give us an upgrade of defense over Scola (who quite frankly is a large liability on defense). I think the frontcourt is a crucial part to defense and Bosh would give us size and athleticism. With Brooks, Martin, Ariza/Battier, Bosh, Yao we would be assured the ability to compete now and in my opinion that team could give the lakers, celtics, magic a run for their money. Also if we get Bosh we will likely keep Scola as he is an UFA.

The problem with bosh is that we don't need him for all of his great attributes, considering it would cost a max contract. If we wanna spend $20+ mill on a player, we have to get the right fit for our team. I don't think he will make our offense more efficient, unless we bring brooks off of the bench. Having brooks/yao/martin/bosh as a starting lineup is excessive. I can see how it will help if we put lowry instead of brooks, and then have brooks blaze it up in our second unit. But this will never work considering player pride.

I wouldn't say we need Bosh, but our offense is not as good as it could be, and probably will need to be to make it to the finals.

you are assuming that yao can be his old self again.

i think the rockets pursuit of amare last summer and bosh this summer shows just how confident they are in his ability to be a big time player again.

bosh, martin, and brooks make a nice scoring trio. yao might be more of a role player on offense and an anchor on defense.

If we put an offer for him, I would rather us try with Brooks. With Bosh in our starting line up we need a pass first point gaurd with better defense. Then we could have scola and battier coming off of the bench.

    Bosh/yao/martin/lowry/ariza
    scola/battier/acquired PG/...

it appeared to be a thread about Bosh and defense, so I merged it with a existing thread about the same subject. Really, with all the threads we have going already, was yours unusual enough to warrant it's own thread?
