Right now our roster is stacked at the Big/Forward spots. I know Ime wants to play big, but with the best team (OKC) having a ton of ball pressure defenders in Dort, Caruso, Wallace, JDub etc, I wonder if our lack of ball-handlers will become a problem. As is, guys like Tari and DFS will have to play significant minutes at the 2 spot. The X-Factor is obviously Reed, but he's still only 21.
We got Josh Okogie, who is only 26, an fantastic on-ball defender and has shown an increasing ability to hit the three ball. So right now it's Fred/Amen/Okogie/Reed/Holiday. I think that's fine defensively going into the season. Not as much outside shooting as I'd like in the backcourt, but that may change with improvements from Amen, Reed, and possibly Okogie, and if we see a return to FVV's career average (37%).
My gut feeling is that we need one at the right price, but it's really too early to say. I wish "too early to say" had been a voting option. They don't need to decide immediately.
I think this front office are way over-rating Reed Sheppard's ability as the point guard. He has done nothing to show he can play that role consistently. Yea, he has shown flashes against inferior competition, but even then it hasn't been consistent. It's going to be our major weakness going into next season but then again, Ime doesn't run proper offenses anyways so he'll probably just throw in two bigs and some wings and call it a day.
People are not going to like my vision, but i see them moving fred more to the bench, letting amen run the point while Sheppard comes in to play Shoot guard I run this alot in 2k, Amen and Reed take turns bringing up the ball, with Amen as the primary ball hander (PG) and sometimes reed but usually reed learns how to play the point guard position but mainly he is going to be in to shoot 3's at 2 (SG). Yep it works great. Also Fred and Amen taking turns at PG. Makes holiday way more expendable, but only comes in like Tate, when people are in foul trouble etc... But i see the bench as Amen - Reed - Finley - Eason - Adams/Capela
Amen is the point guard/primary perimeter ballhandler of the future IMO, so it doesn't really matter that much. Main thing for Reed is he needs to hit outside shots and show he can play adequate defense.
