Do u think when Morey traded for BJ and Greene he was actually thinking of the trade for Artest? Because he knew that the Kings would need a backup pg, it would take an big expiring contract but not as bad as Odom's, and BJ was a kings' favorite, he knew that it would take a flashy pick who has the potential to be a star for the kings to bite... If that's the case, I have a new nick name for him, Daryl "the Prophet" Morey!
Haha ... no. The Rockets were fortunate that the Kings were able to convince Artest to extend his contract another year. If that didn't happen, then I don't think this would have worked. But credit to Morey for taking advantage of fortuitous circumstances (as with the Luis Scola acquisition a year ago).
Hindsight is always 20/20. I think it went all the way back 35 years when Morey's parents, both were hard-core Rockets fans, conceived Morey, everything was planned the way to make this trade happen. Seriously, at the time when we dropped James and Bonzi for Bjax, he was bombarded by folks here. It turned out to be a brilliant move. The Greene pick a one for two pick. Even though we traded away Green, we still have Dorsy, who is only several spots behind in the draft. Also we will still have early 2nd round pick next year. I say the guy got a phd from MIT for a reason.
No, that would be r****ded, but I'm sure he obtained Bobby knowing his contract would be valuable the following season with every intention to deal him.
Morey isn't even human, he's a humanoid cyborg version of this, Deep Blue was a combination of special purpose hardware and software with an IBM RS/6000 SP2 (seen here) -- a system capable of examining 200 million moves per second, or 50 billion positions, in the three minutes allocated for a single move in a chess game. (VV1001)
More like he told Dawson to do the Dickerson-Francis swap, then told him to do the McGrady-Francis swap; then he used Juwan Howard and traded him for Mike James, which then he traded for BJax, then traded Jackson, Greene for Artest. He planned it all this time, genius.
No, it is just like Chess. You make the best move possible, then take the opportunities when they arise. When you make crap moves like the Mavs, you have no opportunities. I think that US Select Team stud Luther Head + Lockdown Battier can get us one very nice player. Although not trading Battier is a pretty smart move.
Take this one a step further- do you think Adelman was hired because he was Artest's preferred coach?
Exactly, there is no way Morey planned on getting Artest, last year. There were too many variables. You do the best moves that will provide financial flexibility and draft cheap valuable players for trades or development. You can do the opposite and follow the Knicks and Mavs and pick up overpriced trash, Curry, Croshere, Randolph, Marbury and go into lux tax. Lux teams don't win it all nearly as much as the fiscally responsible team that spend as much as they can without overpaying.
