do the texans have any realistic chance of acquiring more picks?

i haven't done any research comparing this years number of underclassmen declaring for the draft versus other years but it seems pretty high to me. the texans under rick smith have clearly been very draft savvy but we seem to be in a weak position this time around. the depth of talent seems pretty good and we could really use that 2nd round pick this year. it's not gonna be fun waiting 60 or so picks until the texans next pick.

...but i really can't see us being able to do anything to get more picks...just wanted to see what yall thought.

and a side note...what are your opinions on stewart at 18? will he even be there? i didn't watch him much and i know he is highly regarded but he has injury concerns. thoughts?

With such a deep class of running backs I just don't see the Texans using a #1 on one. Just not their standard operating procedure. Evidentially, there is a pretty deep class for tackles. I would love for them to trade down. If they don't, I would tend to think they are going after a position which is impossible to fill cheaply. Cornerback or left tackle seems about right.

I wonder if Rosenfels and a 3rd rounder could net a high 2nd rounder?

Maybe, but I wouldn't. We have a luxury most teams don't have. I wouldn't give that up until Schaub can make it through a season. I know they run the risk of losing him for nothing after next season, but I still wouldn't do it right now.

Now that we have hired the O-Line Messiah in Alex Gibbs, the Texans (much like the Broncos have in the past) can wait patiently until the 3rd or 4th round to grab a back.

Get ready for 1,700yds and 4.8 ypc from our running game. No kidding.

If Jenkins,Cason,Stewart are all gone, I would call Atl and ask for the 35th and the 50th for the 18th. 8 see a lot of really talented players in the 2nd rd. The cb like flower from va teck, porter from indiana, the cb from usc. The 2nd 2nd rd pick can be used on a rb, or another db.

It does take a bit of talent to put up those kind of numbers, regardless of the blocking scheme and those doing the actual blocking. I'm not sure that potential is on the roster. I think they're in a position to go after the best available in the 1st round, and that might just be a RB. Lord knows there's a ton of them this year.

i'd imagine they'd like to trade their first down for a additional 2nd rounder

Hopefully, a top 10 pick slips, much like Brady Quinn...We could take advantage of something like that.

Otherwise, we could very well trade down about 10-15 spots and get an extra 2nd rounder in the process.
