Do the Rockets really get mistreated/disrespected by refs?

I've been a fan of the Rockets since the glory days and after every game, I just remember some very bad calls going against the rockets. It seems like I rarely notice the same calls consistently going against the opposing team. Is this just because I am a Rocket fan or is it true?

Do the Rockets get disrespected by refs? Maybe not disrespect, but it seems like they are not shown respect. Being 3rd maybe even 2nd in the West, yet we are still overlooked by teams like the Jazz, Hornets, and Nuggets in the media.

Sadly, this does not seem like something we can change. Winning a title would earn respect but I don't honestly see us getting there in part of the NBA wanting a lebron vs. kobe finals of course.

It's because you're a Rockets fan. Every NBA fan thinks his team gets screwed by refs more than the opponent. We're psychologically wired to remember the bad calls that go against us more vividly than the bad calls that go against our opponent.

Fans of every team think they get screwed by the refs. We tend to not notice the bad calls that go in our favor and overemphasize the bad calls that go against us. The truth is, the officiating is so universally horrible that everybody has something to b**** about, no matter what team they're rooting for.

Certainly as a Rockets fan, the general tendency is to think every call that doesn't go your way is the refs fault ;)

That being said, I do think Yao is very poorly officiated and I'd like to think that fans of other teams would agree as well.

eh... theres always some bad calls made every game. I think its mainly Yao who gets the shaft though. Any other superstar gets a call for every little bump, but Yao gets a ridiculous amount of no calls imo

    In general, no.

But you can make a decent argument that Yao gets less than his fair share of calls.

True. You're not exactly asking the most unbiased bunch here.

BUT - if nothing else, a case can (and has to be) made for Yao Ming.

Um, they didn't call Mutumbo on a very obvious travel last night. Also, West's offensive foul was probably a flop by Battier.

I don't like it when they miss calls, period. If they miss enough calls, it ruins the game for me whether the Rockets benefit or not.

I can't say that I am totally objective, but I think Yao is the worst officiated player in the league.

Yao is not officiated fairly. Everyone else on the team gets the same treatment as the rest of the players in the league. Of course, Ron will get whistled for a technical quicker than any player in the league.

No one is perfect. I highly doubt your going to see a game officiated correctly for 48 mins or so on. Refs get the calls correct and they make bad calls. Thats life.

And Lowry traveled on that one fast break where he passed it out to Von who then passed it back to Landry for the dunk. Lowry clearly took a third step before passing it out. And what about all those flops from Scola and Battier yesterday?

How many Rockets fans were complaining about that in the game thread?

Sure, but it's way, way overstated by most Rockets fans. Yao is poorly officiated, just like Shaq. And, sometimes, he's poorly officiated in our favor.

will but big men like Yao get worse treatment, that's the truth. And not every team has Yao, so we are treated worse.

The calls were pretty bad against us earlier in the season. We are getting some favorable or fair calls just recently. They don't call a foul on Yao when opposing players jump into him much any more, as long as he keeps his arms straight up and down.

You're right, and part of that is his star status. For the majority of 7-footers, if they did what Yao does there I bet they'll get more calls against them. I think the refs sometimes allow Yao to get away with a little more when he's defending in the paint, to make up for all the pushing and shoving he has to deal with on the offensive end.
