With the Gasol trade, it's quickly become apparant that three is the magical number when it comes to star players in the Western Conference. All of the NBA teams contending above us now have three, four, sometimes five 12+ PPG scorers! (The Suns being the freak example; Barbosa/Marion/Amare/Nash/Grant are all above 15 PPG).

The question is...in your opinion, is it worth it to sacrifice some of the depth the Rockets seemed to have gained with thier new rookies to obtain a "Big Three"? If for example, someone came along and said "we'll take all your rookies and some of your bench for a Jason Kidd or Shawn Marion-type player", would you accept that?

I don't think we have the assets to acquire such a player. Any trades in mind?

    in a heart beat.

role players are a dime a dozen. first round picks come along every year.

i would trade anyone on the team not names yao or tmac to bring in a 3rd star.

    Mostly a hypothetical question :p

But personally, I think if the Rockets wanted to, they have enough assets sans Yao and McGrady to get at least a decent player. Even a Battier+Scola+1st pick package would be enough to get...well, someone.

Nope not liking this poll. I'd rather have 5 players capable of dropping 20 pts on any given day. Balanced scoring is the key.

    get mike miller.

anyone except Yao, battier, brooks, and scola is expendable (if the deal is right).

    I would only trade:
    James
    Francis
    Synder
    Novak
    Wells
    Alston (in return of PG)

It would sorta defeat the whole purpose of this thread if we trade one of Yao or Tmac. I'm pretty sure it will never happen, but I don't know anyone who'd trade our bench and fillers for another superstar.

Man I remember laughing at the Lakers a couple seasons ago.. hell I was laughing at them still last season and this off season. They have some really good management there. Oh well who cares, we'd beat them in a 7-game series.

I guess I don't really like how the answer to get a 3rd player is phrased. the lake show definitely didn't have to give up much to get gasol. if memphis is so desperate to cut salary and mike miller could be acquired in some kind of crazy deal with head, sura, bonzi, snyder, and picks then that isn't exactly trading the bench away.

morey was able to screw the spurs so they could dump salary maybe he can use his jedi mind tricks once more and get miller.

Teams do not liking doing 2:1 trades let alone 3:1 trades. So I don't see that scenario landing us Miller.

I would be ok in adding Shane and Luther to that list too.

We don't need a third franchise player. I understand many will probably pick the franchise player option but I'm tired of continuing the short term solution of the last few years.

In the playoffs, a bench is right up there with having a Yao or a Tracy. Games are not played on paper. Paul Gasol to the Lakers doesn't scare me.

We need a tweak at two positions in my opinion. We need a change at point guard, someone who makes the western conference's best worry about him as a scoring threat and who can take the play-making duties off of Tracy. And a big backup guard that can play the two and three who is able to hold his own against starting caliber competition if need be. Bonzi and Luther haven't done it for me.

Get a Mike Miller, a Andre Miller. Instead of spending close to 20 million on a player like a Jason Kidd. Get two players for the price of one. If Les is willing to spend the luxury tax, it can be done.

Personally, I think we already have the assets to go all the way. The team just needs to gel a bit more and get the Adleman system down. Rafer has sparks of being good but not great. Only upgrade I would make is at the Pt. Guard position if possible. I would not however trade any of our rookies.

Oh, if only it was just some random guy named Paul Gasol who went to the Lakers...

I don't see it happening either. In fact I really don't see any scenario that lands us an impact player...but there is hope with morey.

People who voted yes must be crazy. If we want a big third scorer we can give up starters like Rafer, Hayes or even Battier but giving up the future is the stupidest thing you can do. Look how the Rockets dug themselves into a deep hole after the 2nd championship, giving up Cassell & Horry for Barkley which is the dumbest move ever by the franchise. After that it all went downhill with Pippen, Glen Rice, Willis etc. Since Francis & Yao they're back on track like with Olajuwon and if we build a solid team around Yao with some youngsters which we now have we can get that 3rd championship. Guaranteed !!

man if we can get mike battier for james/snyder, i think that's just as big as pau gasol to hte lakers.

i mean, u put mike miller OFF THE BENCH with bonzi, let tmac play the point, with landry and scola. can u imagine how big and versatile that lineup is w/ a super scorer in tmac, shooter in mike, post guy in bonzi, and hustle in landry and scola.

morey HAS to get something done. we're on the verge of greatness. we really only need ONE MORE scorer like a mike miller who doesn't need a ton of shots to get his points.

tmac and mike had great chemistry in orlando. get it done morey.

Who? I don't know if you could get a impact-level star player to create a "Big Three" with that.

I don't believe Jason Kidd makes us better losing those players, if that's who you have in mind. Our main problem at PG is shooting, and Kidd is one of the worst shooting PGs in the league.

Mike Miller is a good player, but I wouldn't give up Battier and Scola for him.

To be honest, I think we just have to go with who we got. Draft another good PG in the draft. Morey, do your magic again.
