I don't mean to cry and whine already. Nor am I going to start another thread clamoring for Gundy's head (though maybe I should...seeing how last year they went on a tear right after it). Every year there are a few teams that play way over their heads. Last year it was Seattle, maybe the Suns, Denver, etc. This year its the Clippers, Bucks and Cleveland. Teams that are on the bubble but end up having a better year then everyone thought they would. The Rockets never ever seem to do this. They always seem to have an okay year or a dissapointing year. Atleast since the great days of Hakeem/Charles/Clyde. They haven't had one year where I can say that I was satisfied with their regular season record. Its always something. Rebuilding, chemistry, injuries, coaching change, etc. I just wish one day we are like the Suns of last year. Tear up the freakin league and play an exciting brand of basketball. Watching the Rockets right now is extremely painful and boring.
I think it's hard to overachieve in the eyes of Rockets fans who lived through the championship years.
An argument can be made that the rockets teams that won the championships were overachievers. I mean our backcourt consisted of kenny smith and vernon maxwell.
I honestly think we overachieved the last half of the last season. TMac + Yao are good together, but I on paper every other player didn't look so great at first. Sura, Wesley, Barry, Mutombo, Padgett, Weatherspoon? I certainly didn't expect our "near-retirement" Rockets role players to step up and help net us 51 wins, then proceed to take a powerful Dallas team to 7 games without our starting power forward. I was damn proud of how well our team played last season.
