I'm sure everyone knows about the guy who turned in the video tape containing some sick b*stard molesting a little girl. It basically cost him his freedom when he turned it in. They arrested the guy who turned it in. Unless the guy who turned it in is a complete moron, why would he turn it in if he was only going to implicate himself? It would appear, by all outward appearances, that he is unfairly being targeted for "doing the right thing". What does this say about trying to "do the right thing"? Would you turn it in if you were going to then be charged with having child p*rn? The implication appears to be, if you want to avoid trouble, never watch a videotape you find on the street...never even pick it up because, if it contains a crime, then you will immediately become involved as a suspect and likely face arrest. This is what I am currently taking away from this. I guess it's possible this guy is guilty of something and is a moron but it seems like he was disgusted by it as any normal person (this guy is a parent) would be and wanted to do the right thing by turning it in. I know there was a delay before he turned it in and he's being accused of stuff like having "viewing parties" for his friends (all unproven rumor (the guy involved says they are blatant lies) at this point which seems to have been floated to the media by the Sheriff's office (unprofessional to try this person in public to say the least)). I think he delayed turning it in due to this very thing of being implicated for something. If he turned it in immediately, then is he still in the same situation? It really does ponder the question...is it always best to do the right thing? I'm not so sure.
From what I remember of the story, the guy had 2 warrants out already. he claimed he recently found the tape in the desert, but then others said he showed them the tape as long as 5 months ago. Then he disappeared for a few days when the cops asked him to come in. I don't think he was just some innocent guy who found a tape- there's more to the story that will come out.
I guess that's reasonable...as long as you wear gloves when you do it and put no return address. It would be equivalent to trying to mail Anthrax at that point. Then, you are an unknown suspect who mailed it in. God forbid they find a way to track you down or lift a finger print. Then, what are they going to think about you? It then becomes "if you have nothing to hide, then why did you mail it in and take precautions to ensure you were not found?". Well...uhh...I saw this other guy turn in a tape personally trying to "do the right thing" and he was arrested for it. I didn't want to be one of those guys and become front page news for trying to do a good deed but somehow becoming a suspect in whatever way law enforcement dreams up. Osama Bin Laden would have no problem getting it turned in, though. LOL
Yea...I had read he had unrelated warrants and was arrested for those. I guess he is a moron, then. I did not hear the part about anyone coming forward saying he showed them the tape. They guy said he showed the little girl in the tape to his girlfriend and that is it. I guess he could by lying. Time will tell.
