I have found it amusing that depending on the outcome of sports games such as the Texans,Rockets, or Astros can play effect my mood.

For example watching the Texans this season has made my Sundays become a very sad, and gloomy day. While when they win it seems to help set a positive tone for the rest of my day, and possibly the week.

Or when watching the Rockets and seeing a game we were ahead by a large margin and eventually lost, or had a game winning shot hit against us, seems to put a bad taste in my mouth, and sends me into sometimes a piss poor mood.

I'm a die hard sports fan so it could just be me, but I was just curious to see if anyone else had thoughts on this.

Yes, they definitely do affect my mood. My mood is often directly tied to how well my various fantasy teams are performing, so much so that I have considered giving up the hobby lately since my teams have been sucking so badly.

I voted "No," and that is the truth. Two years ago it would've been a resounding "Yes," but for the most part sports have no effect on my attitude or happiness unless it's a really big game, and even then only for a few minutes. For example, when the Dodgers lost to the Phillies in the NLCS, I went through a moment of immense disappointment, and then it was over. I didn't go around being ****ty to people or anything, because ultimately, sports are something I have no control over anyway, to get so emotionally invested in them is something that doesn't make sense to me anymore.

When I was younger, however, my entire week would be ruined because of a Texans loss... needless to say I had many terrible weeks. The sense has been dulled the past couple of years though.

When watching the Texans the key is to go in with an attitude of you are going to lose. Thus when they do lose you are not surprised, and when they win it's an uplifting feeling.

Although the concept in itself is a bit depressing.

That's a funny question. It does affect me. I had to play piano for a private party last night in college station outside in 35 degree cold, which was almost unbearable. Fortunately, the Longhorns pulled out that game or else I don't know if I would have made it through the night the way I did. Of course it was hard watching the game with the whole place rooting against my team so I didn't have anyone to celebrate the win with, but I was extremely happy that we pulled it out considering I was pretty down thinking that the odds were against pulling out the win the way things had been going.

Memphis played TAMU not too long ago. Law's last year. Northgate was electric that night, the entire city was pumped. I was at a bar watching the game, yada yada, last second heartbreaker... the entire strip was dead and dull after that. People just looked numb.

When Texas plays OU or aTm, yes. Otherwise, it might for 5 minutes afterwards, then I'm done. The Texans never effect my attitude. I find it amusing the ways the invent to lose.

As of 5 or 6 years ago sure but since then not so much as I've gone through more then enough crap to put things in perspective.

Astros - Still put me through hell after tough losses but with so many games it doesn't last long.

Texans - Hard to get to upset after so many punches in the junk. Funny thing is that sometimes I kind enjoy a spectacular loss to make sports talk more interesting and see the train wreck the Monday after.

Rockets - To long as season to get to upset over single losses but like the Stros it can be tough at times. Playoff losses do sting quite a bit though.

Winning games do give me an extra bit of adrenalin to get me through the next day, specially work days.

Yes they do especially if I'm watching them alone. I'm not too much of a sore loser and if I'm watching them with fans of the other team I can at least give them their due.

A study was done that showed that feeling down after your team loses isn't just in your head but actually affects men's the level of testosterone.

Hell yes. Especially football because it's usually on Sunday so if your team loses.. You have a special serving of Monday to make you feel better.

I'm a member of a Basketball team fan Forum.
I would think that if someone post more than once a week they will be affected by wins and loses.

Depends on what sport and when it happens or where I am at.

If I'm at a bar I usually the loss fine because him I'm other people.

If I'm at home by myself I will be sad or mad. That is if it's the playoffs. Regular season not so much unless we are talking College Football which is basically like the playoffs all year.

That is what being a fan is all about. You HAVE to be invested or it isn't any fun. I am only like this with the Rockets...

That's true for me also. Well, except when I could win the March Madness office pool if one team wins and then they stink it up (like Michigan State, for instance.)

Not at all is this depressing. It's not even pessimistic. It's what I call realistic. That's right, realistic. And guess what? It's a good practice to even apply this technique to the Astros.

To be truthful, when the Astros lose, I feel nothing most of the time. Sometimes anger (usually channeled at Drayton McLane and whoever the current manager/GM is). But it's rare I get angry with the Astros, I just expect it like I expect the sun to rise, or for temperatures to change here in Houston.

Now, the Texans. This situation is a bit more complicated. I'm starting to take the Astros approach and mood toward the Texans, but I must say that I have more emotional attachment to the Texans because I still consider it a young franchise with an owner who's sincerely trying (Gary/Schaub). It's almost getting to that point, though...for this year at least. Next year, I'll probably have higher expectations. After today, no.

Now the Rockets are a completely different story altogether. Love the Rockets and whatever happens in any game can affect me the rest of the day or even the next day. I even start treating family members bad if they loose, that's always fun.
