I don't know if they do either. If they did, Irvin may not have had 88. There was a guy by the name Drew Pearson. He was pretty good. ;) :D

You're too young to be brining up Drew Pearson. :D

I think they have retired a few...but a lot of teams are very careful about it because they don't want to run out of numbers.

The Cowboys don't retire numbers. They use the Ring of Honor to honor former players/coaches.

There are about fifty players on a football team every year. Once you start retiring a couple of numbers you can start getting in some trouble.

I believe most teams have a system where the wide recivers can only pick numbers in the 80's, safeties can pick numbers only in the fifties or something along that line.

Besides that loser Michael Irwin doesnt deserve to get his number retired.

Yeah Yeah I'm a Cowboy fan but it doesnt mean I have to like all the Cowboys. He is one of the true reasons for the Crackwagon jokes! Its cause of his ugly ass we did not pick Randy Moss! :( And he was dissin Ming on his crappy show.

They've got to retire Emmit's Jersey. If no one else, Emmit deserves it.

If anything, they could honor both him and Tony Dorsett, who also had the same number, I believe.

I didn't know much about him, but I've heard a bit mroe latetly with Bryant getting 88. Plus my dad can help me out. :D

The Cowboys only use the ring of honor, they do not retire numbers.

Dorsett wore #33 Smith wears #22

Ahh fudge...well...I think somebody else wore 22. Maybe it was Calvin Hill. (he played right?)

Edit: Forget Calvin...he wore 35. Saw a pic of Hayes, and maybe thats what got me thinking about it.

I think many teams will raise the jersey to the rafters but they will let others pick the number.
