Last i heard patrick ewing was going to wait to accept a position with Michal Jordons new team, however as MJ will not be getting a basketball team, maybe this opens things back up with the big Georgetown center.

I don't have a problem with Ewing coaching our guys. But I want people who want ot be here. Not someone who is simply willing to be here.

"Pistons Coach Larry Brown has extended an offer to Patrick Ewing to join his coaching staff. Ewing, though, is likely to either end up in Milwaukee if Michael Jordan buys the team or in Houston with Jeff Van Gundy." Detroit News

Just saw this on the Inside Hoops rumors page. Apologies if it has been posted already.

I'd rather have Mario, but anyone for Yao to practice with will be a plus.

Hot Roket you are on to something. Knowing that Yao was schooling Ewing several times a week would be fun. Aren't practices open in the new stadium. We must sign Ewing.

I would rather see Lew Alcindor teach him a thing or two down low.

Ewing and House-ton just dosen't sound right. ;)

Does anyone know if trainer Keith Jones is keeping his position now that Rudy has stepped down? Didn't want to start a whole new thread on this.

That's good, and he'd kinda have to be afetr getting that promotion last year to like VP of player personnel of whatever it was. Glad KJ is still with the Rockets.

Do we really want Ewing here? He did a horrible job teaching the big men in Washington. What makes you think he would be good for Yao?

No Ewing. I was hoping he would go to Mill. He didn't do anything with the guys in Wash. Yao might actually regress.

I have the same sentiment. I thought he wanted a shot at training the best young center prospect in the league, so I was fine with him; but he obviously didn't want it that bad because he'd prefer to work for Jordan. If he doesn't have the passion for the job, what's the point?

Agreed. But this is not about wanting to be in Houston or not. So let's not fault the guy for weighing his options. He's just making the choice that is best for him. Surely he is thinking beyond being just the big man coach.

At first I thought it would be a good idea for him to come here, but after hearing about him wanting to go to MJ, I have thought otherwise. It sounds to me like he just wants an easy job where he can still be around the game, not to actually further a career in coaching.

First, he goes to Washington so he can Cadillac w/ MJ. Then MJ retires and leaves Washington, so Ewing leaves Washington. Now, MJ tried to buy the Bucks, so Ewing tries to go to Milwaukee where he (AGAIN) can Cadillac w/ MJ. And, if nothing else, since he can't go to the Bucks, he settles on Houston where he can come and Cadillac with his favorite coach while he was a player, JVG.

If he really wants a career in coaching, why doesn't he have to start in the NBDL, or the CBA? How is it he immediately thinks he can get a job in the NBA?

The answer is so he can still 'live the life' of a player by being a coach, but not put in any of the work that most coaches in the NBA have had to go through to get to the top. Since he put the Rockets on hold with this whole Bucks thing, we should put him on hold and make him EARN his coaching status.
