I have been a Rockets fan since 1983. I now live in Austin (past 17 years)and try not to miss any games via my subscription to Directv NBA Package. I drove down to H-town for the game Saturday (Section 117, Row 20) and had a confrontation with a Laker fan wearing Bryant's jersey sitting directly in front of me! (I was sporting my Brooks jersey with my last name on the back...birthday present). They said I was being too loud and that my Rockets Drum was disturbing them!! I said, too bad, I'm going to cheer for my Rockets and bang my drum. Next thing I know, this usher comes over and ask if there's a problem...I said "NO"; the guy in front of me said, "yes, there is a problem...she's being too loud with that drum". I told the usher that I purchased my drum at the Toyota Center and that if I could not use it, Les Alexander had to come and tell me personally that I was being too loud in cheering for and supporting my Rockets! The usher said something I did not hear as he left. By halftime, the folks in front of me left!!! I continued cheering and banging my drum (when warranted) until the buzzer ended the game! We need to show our support!! To hell with the opponent's fans trying to silence us. GO ROCKETS!!! I'm a huge fan and will always support my ROCKETS!!!
Cool story, sis. jk lol. That's actually pretty awesome. I was half expecting Les Alexander to pop up half way through your story.
I get into confrontations with opposing fans at least half the times I go to Rocket games. Not because I'm loud or a dick but because Rockets fans as a group are some of the most spineless fans I'm aware of and I'm the only one with the balls to say anything to an opposing teams fan who comes into Toyota Center talking trash. The last game I went to (Pistons game where Tslack returned) I had words repeatedly with a Pistons fan who was talking trash about Rocket players as they touched the ball. All of the people around me looked at each other and just shook their heads like "I can't believe this gentleman is talking poorly about our Rockets but I'm too scared to say anything" so I had to have enough balls for everyone. The beer definitely helped get me into a mood where I thought it was worth beating someone senseless just because they made fun of Aaron Brooks and Chuck Hayes. Luckily for my criminal record, the Pistons fan chilled when he realized I was that serious (and slightly drunk). Am I a jackass for thinking it was worth getting into a fight with a guy just because he was an obnoxious fan for the other team? Absolutely. Will it happen again? Probably.
I remember a couple of years back I went to a game against the Mavs and in the rest room I heard a couple of older gentlemen who were Mavs fans and wearing ugly throwback Nowitzki unis talking smack about Yao and saying how a "chink" and "chinaman" is too soft and a p***y. Keep in mind I was only 15 or 16 at that time and those gentlemen were like at least 30. I got into an arguement with them and told them Yao was the best center in the NBA and way better than any of the Mavsholes! We were this close to fighting it out right there, but my dad stepped in and stopped it. I know its normal and a part of the game, but I hate it when there are so many people wearing the opposing teams uniforms at the Toyota Center! I know, Cool story, bro.
Some people want their teeth intact. There is a time to stand for what is right and there is time when when you just have to let something small thing like that go. I understand if someone is messing with your family or friend, then your gonna want to kick some butt. But with an opposing fan acting like a douche you have to undersand..... They are always going to be haters. You just have to shake them off your shoulders lol.
I'm not advocating violence toward them (I even admit I'm an idiot for considering it) but to just sit there and let some clown yell obscenities and degrade our team just seems wrong to me. Why go to a Rocket game if you're going to cower in fear from opposing teams' fans? Rockets fans should at least give people like that some friendly heckling and call security if the guy gets belligerent over it.
so many confrontations last year between rockets and lakers fans in that playoffs series. good times.
Is this a rhetorical question? Because I love the Rockets, like seeing them up close and in person, and don't like arguing with people? Maybe I prefer just sitting and enjoying the game, tuning out the opposing fan nearby. It's not cowering in fear, it's just not giving a crap what some ignorant fan of an opposing team says. The players don't care, why should I?
WTF! RIGHT ON! You can actually buy a drum at toyota center, lol. Who the hell is that blowing that viking horn that is freaking awesome. I thought all that stuff was illegal at NBA games. I guess not.
If that's really how it went down, then that's awesome ZoZo. Sounds like that Lakers fan, like most, was a douche. Way to represent the Rockets.
Forgive me if I don't have the above quote that I am responding to in the proper format...this is only my 3rd. I was NOT trying to start ANYTHING with the Lakers' fan...I was simply standing up in strong support for my ROCKETS!!! Again, fighting is not my objective; showing support and trying to motivate my team, is/was my objective. GO ROCKETS!!!!!
I purchased 'what I call a drum', at the Toyota Center about 5 years ago. Whenever I make it to a game (usually once a year), I take it and use it! Since I'm not familiar with showing you a picture of my drum, here's the description: Flat, red hard plastic facing w/ "R" logo, black rim, 8-10" single drum stick. It's great!!! When I watch the games at home, I pull it out and bang it as if I was at the game. GO ROCKETS!!!
Good For You!! You just have to out yell them. Most of the people that complain will just be leaving early anyway those tourists!
