... That a healthy Houston Rockets squad has what is unequivocally the BEST frontcourt rotation in the NBA. If not, now, certainly by next year. Yao Ming Luis Scola Carl Landry Chuck Hayes Shane Battier Dikembe Mutombo Mike Harris (yeah, he counts)
Honestly, I love our frontcourt, but some teams are just BEASSTTT, and stacked in their front court with, some that come to mind... lakers with - lamar - gasol - bynum hornets with - peja - west - chandler nuggets with - melo - kmart - camby suns with - hill - amare - shaq celtics with - peirce - kg - perkins even the jazz with - ak47 - boozer - okur so idk, its tough out there, especially in the west.
We are the deepest. Great balance of youth and veteran leadership. But not the best. Although Yao can elevate his game to some nasty levels when healthy.
Yao is better than every player in that lineup on both ends, and defensively, we have several guys better than those, too. Bynum is a bit of a question mark, though. Besides, the Lakers have no one behind those guys. That's why I said "rotation", not just starters.
we have all nice role players, except for yao. when yao sits out, our role players is a big step down. lakers in the other hand, bynum sits down... you still got odom and bynum.
I agree with the original poster, we are the deepest. So many teams have question marks on their team. Our guys aren't all great but they're all pretty good for chemistry.
those are pretty strong words. yao is certainly better than all of them at many things, but he has his weaknesses as well. lack of lateral speed will forever be yao's biggest downfall and makes him a bigger liability in certain matchups than say a gasol, whose greater quickness enables him to finish off a pick and roll much better, or bynum, who's athleticism makes him a more capable rebounder. comparing yao to odom is unfair to both players so i won't even go there. for the original topic, we are a very deep front court with a healthy yao, but people are seriously overrating scola and landry. as much as i love them, they aren't in the same tier as guys like west and boozer, much less amare and garnett.
If we could just get more consistency from our guards, I don't think anyone could stop us. The problem is we've never had a full season with Yao & McGrady together.
Have you seen Gasol on defense though? He's terrible, and how about Bynum's athleticism after his injury, think he will be the same? What happens if he becomes injury prone? Sure, Bynum has had Kareem-f'in-Abdul Jabbar teaching him this whole time, but he needs to prove himself more than by about 40 games before I notch him above "potential" level. BUT at least he doesn't suck like Darko Milicic, Milicic is ultimate failure.
Uhh...Alston's been awesome this year. Next year, who knows? I still don't know what to think of Brooks. The limited time I've seen him on the court, I've been unimpressed. Maybe...he'll be as good as people are touting him to be.
alston is inconsistant. that's his weakness. and that's the worst weakness you can have, unless you are ryan bowen.
i would take yao over any of those cats any day of the week. so not only we are the deepest overall we do have the most talent, but that is based on the upside of our youngsters. They should get better and be better next year and hopefully the whole front court is healthy throughout the year
Well I'm not getting into that much of specifics as there is really no need. The fact is that Yao is flat out better overall than any of those players. Yes, there are some things he does worse, some he does better, but that is true when you're comparing almost any two starters in the NBA. And Scola and Landry don't need to be in the same tier as West and Boozer for my original statement to be true. I just think our guys bring an unmatched combination of basketball IQ, defense, heart, and ridiculous amounts of energy. When you talk about Yao, Scola, and Landry, you're also talking about a significant amount of flat out offensive talent.
