Im driving into downtown today from I-10 E, in the dawn hours, and this ****ing cop on the other side is on the feder with his bright white lights (ones by the door so they see the guy they pulled over) into ****ing oncoming traffic. I was blinded for a couple of seconds, and this cop had it on for awhile! I was coming back I-10 W a lil later and the same cop was in the same position ! ****ing amazing!

then on my way home, i turn into my neighboorhood, and theres a long street, so i went up the street then took a left, and there was a cop all the way down that street. he pulled me over in front of my house n told me to watch myself and he could give me a ticket for speeding.................how the hell could he have given me a speeding ticket based on the sound of my exhaust......

    jesus christ

I know some good kids who really want to become cops and then go further from there, but most of the cops I have encountered are racist pricks and/or flat out douchebags on power trips.

Yes I get really pissed by them... I grew up in a small town where they had nothing to do but mess with younger people. UNfortunately that has made me grow a large hatred towards them. I know there are many cops and friends of cops on here, but I don't why why cops have to a "I'm superior to you" attitude.

They also think they can pull chicks because of their uniform. Ever seen them at clubs or working security? What meatheads.

It is called "zero accountability." Cops don't give a rat's ass anymore. If they made police deal with the same areas like they did in the past, it would be vastly improved. I'm still not sure why the city Gov't hasn't figured out this failure yet.

Have police patrol the same neighborhoods like they used to. That way the police get a much better feel for the people they are patrolling, and the people get to know the officers, as well.

Speaking of cops, on the news this morning, a 14 year old boy managed to fool a police station to put him on patrol until they realized he was only 14...i guess he's getting a head start to be an *******!

I have a few friends that went into law enforement and the attitude change was significant.

I can say that most of the police I know are OK people, but I think the job changes them.

I do think there are quite a few cops on power trips, and I find that funny since essentially they work for all of us, our taxes pay their salaries. Though they don't like being reminded of that fact.

Some cops are definitely pricks on power trips, and lack of accountability has a lot to do with that, but you also have to consider that cops are a lot more likely to piss you off than they are to make you happy. It's just the nature of the job.

Sure, you're probably going to appreciate an officer who comes to your house late at night and checks the perimeter of your house because you thought you heard a burglar. But how often does that happen? Reality is, you're more likely to have direct interaction with a police officer when they're ticketing you for something...and sometimes you deserve it.

There are some cops that set up on a certain part of Old Katy Rd. at least once a week, right around a bend where you can't see them until it's too late. They literally walk into the middle of the street and wave cars over to the shoulder of the road if they were one of the speeders. They might pull 3 or 4 over in one shot. Now, I'm sure this type of thing pisses people off, but is there really anything wrong with it? I've seen them waive one car over and then waive another car past, so I'm fairly sure they're picking out the ones that were actually speeding. If that's the case they're just giving tickets to people who deserve them, right?

I don't know...I mean, I drive over the limit regularly and I hate speed traps as much as the next guy, but when I have been pulled over in the past I've accepted the responsibility that it was my fault. If/when I get pulled over again, I'll be pissed, but more about getting caught than about the officer ticketing me.

I like the ones that turn on their lights, pass through the red light, and then turn them off. I was almost hit by one doing this as I was taking a regulated left turn. I honked and held my horn hoping he'd come for me. He didn't.

That's true. I worked with cops on a daily basis a few years ago and they are human beings like the rest of us. Some are absolutely not shy about throwing their authority in your face, though. I met many cops who unmistakably got off on being a cop and that's ok I guess, if you didn't enjoy the job there'd be no reason to take it. It's dangerous, the hours suck, and you deal with the biggest assholes constantly. I met many cops who were reasonable guys and many who were not. I hate seeing a cop car when I'm driving and don't like to interact with cops unless I absolutely have to. Many of them really enjoy helping people, though, and are incredibly gracious when you ask for directions, help with your car, etc. When they're in "service mode" it's great, but when their in "violations mode" there's nobody worse.

I recall watching a cop towing cars in midtown about a year ago, I recall telling him to quit being an ******* because people couldn't park in the parking garage that evening like they usually can. I recall him telling me to walk over to him where I was subsequently arrested for jaywalking.

Pretty sure he wasn't on a power trip.

It's a mixed bag; it's pretty easy to be a cop so there are lots of bottom feeders out there. See A Clockwork Orange.

That said, I have a good friend with a great head on his shoulders who is a cop. He's been a cop for two years. I doubt he will be a 'beat cop' for much longer though. Too smart and too talented. (teaches swat teams martial arts).

I got pulled over the other day for having my brights on when there was no one else on the road, and there were no street lights. The cop was parked in a dark parking lot. It was BS. If you're polite and respectful, you can usually drive away. It's a measure in swallowing your pride.

While we're on the subject, can anyone figure this out for me? How come I constantly see a cop driving down the freeway at the speed limit or maybe 5-10 above, and then somebody passes them up, obviously going 15 or so over the limit...and nothing happens. Honestly, if I were a cop that's the guy I would go after the most...the guy who thought he could get away with speeding right past me.

This isn't something I see once in a blue moon either. This happens all the time and I don't think I've ever seen someone get called on it.

I like to bag on cops as much as the next guy. I think I've started up 2-3 threads on that subject on my own. However I just read this and wanted to bring a difference perspective into this conversation.
