This year I think it was just accidental bad calling from the officials, but I doubt it was rigged because a depleted Rockets team going on to the next round is high drama for anyone.

Last year, I just think we got outplayed

The aggressor getting the calls is a consistent phenomenon within NBA officiating. Imo, the Jazz clearly out-hustled us. They got the calls accordingly.

Definitely, I always felt that we got rid by the refs in the playoff :mad:Specially in rebounding, The jass could just push us around and over the back with no call.

Why would the NBA want Utah to prevail with millions of Chinese viewers supporting Houston?

You can't be serious. A lot of calls didn't go our way because that's how the Jazz play remember? Foul as much as possible w/o getting caught. No conspiracy here.

Millions of Chinese viewers were disappointed in the Dallas series. If the NBA is able to influence one or two series for the sake of TV ratings, what's stopping them from influencing every single playoff series?

I don't think it was rigged at all.

That's the problem now that this gambling thing has come to light. Any time someone's team doesn't win we are going to hear about how the game was rigged. You can't really blame people for feeling that way.

it isn't rigged, but the refs didn't respect us.

tmac got hand-checked every game to the fullest and didn't get calls. he drove more often than during the reg. season and only got 7 ft attempts per game before game 6.

when morey and adelman sent in tapes of the jazz getting away with it, tmac then got a ton of calls and got 18 free throws in game 6. if he had gotten those calls in games 1/2, MAYBE it's a different series.

but i don't think it was rigged. we lacked scorers. rafer and yao out for basically 4 of the 6 games (2/5 of your starting lineup) is a lot to ask.

Fully healthy I dare disagree. This year we were injury riddled, last year we had a far worse Rafer and no power forwards offensively. We still took them to a very competitive 7 game series. This year completely beat up we still took them to 6 and when Rafer was around to compete we actually won.

They are not a better team. Unfortunately, we are still 0-2 in the last 2 years in the playoffs.

The Jazz's style of play has nothing to do with any agendas David Stern and the NBA front office might possess. It's just like San Antonio or Boston's defenses, they will do anything (illegal screens, pushing in the back during rebounds, and flopping being the most prominent) that they can get away with. Up until the Lakers series, no one was accusing Boston of playing dirty defense. But since the Lakers are such a high-profile opponent, all of a sudden there is this wave of public opinion karma against them, and people are starting to point out their plethora of illegal screens (KG was doing it all game in game 3, but they finally called him on it in the WORST POSSIBLE MOMENT. I mean couldn't they have let him know in some other fashion that he was going to lose a possession with 90 seconds left in the game if he kept it up?) and strategy of holding rather than swiping.

That's just the PR nature of the sport. If the Rockets were more talked about in the national press, more people would have been offended by the Jazz's style of play. Jerry Sloan's tactic is just that: let public opinion dictate how far his team goes in the playoffs. That's why they lost to the Lakers this year; that's why they lost to the Spurs last year; and that's why he'll never win a championship. It sucks for us because no one really considered us a playoff-worthy team without Yao this year. I really do feel that for us to go far next year, we will have to get a top 3 seed and ingrain ourselves in the minds of the natl media as being a championship contender. The NBA is the most absurd league in that sense, but what can ya do?

last year we just got outplayed and couldnt hit a shot

If your theory is correct then the NBA simply wanted to extend the series 7 to get the most out of a 1st rd Yao series.

The Chinese market is seriously overhyped. The primary, true money-making market of NBA is still by far the US. Rox can't even sell out their regular season games to start with. Stern definitely knows it, but which CEO won't brag about his franchise getting an additional billion customers? Even he knows over 95% of these "customers" are just watching free peer-to-peer TV.

However, while I think once in a while there may be an agenda, in most of the games it's just bad officiating and poor quality control over the refs. The refs can be intimidated by the crowd very easily, or else it's hard to explain the unimaginable discrepancy of the wins between Utah's home and visitor games. Their players know they can do all kind of dirty little things without worrying receiving any call. This won't even show up in the foul numbers, as the real issue is the non-calls given to the home team.
