The PF spot is definitely up in the air for these 3 young and high potential prospects. Who do you think will eventually end up being the best of the three?
And........... GO! D Mo = Dirk Lite with post moves T Rob = Millsap with ups T Jones = Lesser Howard So hard to say....
I'm going to say Donatus. The fact that he was the first one to get on the court shows his superior work ethic and basketball intelligence compared to the other two. When you are talking about three talented and raw prospects with a lot of potential, work ethic and basketball IQ is really the deciding factor. Also, almost every international player that comes to the states have a bigger adjustment period than college players -- so, the fact that Donatus is further along than the two rookies coming out of multiple years at major college programs, makes me think that his lead over them will only increase as time goes by.
D-Mo can shoot, he's just not doing it well now, give him time. It is important for him to shoot anyway because of his importance to space the floor for our guards to drive to the basket. That is what he is good at. TRob is showing a lot of promise on post game but he needs to be under the rim. I can't see him at the perimeter, maybe later he can develop that but not right now. So they both bring a different game, I think they both could be very important to the team.
My analysis of the prospects thus far. DMo : very polished offensive player that can score in the post with either hand and also has inconsistent range out to the three. Needs more sand in his pants to establish position that should help both defense and rebounding. Probably wont ever be a plus defender but has the motor and motivation to be at least passable. Very agile and can take a couple dribbles to get by his man. Creative and willing passer. Has the "it" factor in terms of confidence and willingness to work along with the natural talents and physical gifts. Lowest bust potential i.m.o. TRob: good rebounder, active motor, quick feet. Is a little small for PF but makes up for it in strength and athleticism. Offensively raw as he has been used to overpowering his opponents in college but not the sale case in NBA. Has a couple goto moves and is quick enough to get past his defender if facing up. Must develop a consistent midrange jumper if wants to have success in this league. Will take the longest time to develop as his progression will be similar to his collegiate career. Probably highest bust potential. TJones: in between DMo and TRob, such that he is not as offensively polished as Dmo but not as raw as Trob. Same for defense and athleticism in that he is a touch less athletic than Trob but more so than DMo. A bit of jack-of-all trades aka Parsons of power forwards. The question is whether he can be good enough at one thing to earn consistent playing time. Like Parsons can develop into good role player but probably not ever a star or top 10 in his position.
Wow those are some horrible comparisons LCAmeh.. T rob has not developed a shot yet and can't shoot 3s or even shoot consistently. T Jones is nothing like Howard. He could be more like an lesser athletic josh smith. D mo is a lesser dirk. most euro players develop within their mid career.
D-Mo is ahead of Robinson because he's been here longer. Robinson has been a hard worker, good luck finding any evidence suggesting otherwise. I'm actually going to go with Robinson because his defense is already more than acceptable and he seems to be a extremely hard working guy, I think he he can be a guy that just gives you so much energy, defense, and if his offense becomes even average then he's already a really good player. I'm not sure what is going on with Jones, but to say D-mo is ahead of Robinson...that's because D-mo has been here much longer. That is to be expected.
thing about jones is that coach should've gave him some burn the first 3 weeks of march. next week we face 4 good playoff teams. not the best time to experiment with rotations. but jones should've got some burn long before march. keeps going back n forth to the dleague and nba. dmo has the starting spot locked up. he's our best pf that can shoot. he's got length, he can run the floor, and some 3pt shooting
I honestly think TJones will be the best all around player out of all three. He just needs to stay healthy and show what he can do.
The **** are you getting your comparison from? Jones is NOTHING like Dwight. He's more of a Al Harrington type of player. Milsap is a offensive center with range. Robinson is a hustle player with good athleticism. DMO is the third world country version of Dirk. Nowhere near the shooting touch of Dirk.
Not saying Robinson does not have a strong work ethic -- I just think if you factor in basketball intelligence and work ethic that, in those aggregated areas, Donatus comes out ahead of Jones and Robinson. No proof of this of course, but this is a post your opinion thread (which should have a poll by the way). I like Jones and Robinson mind you, just think that Donatus is the furthest along of the three, and that this is due to superior work and intelligence.
D-Mo = Somewhere in between Andrea Bargnani and Pau Gasol T-Rob = Somewhere in between Kris Humphries and Kenneth Faried T-Jones = D-League all star until he proves otherwise
I really like T Jones the kid lets his game do the talking I think hell be a beast and hopefully a potential starter in 2-3 years.
Yeah I know it's a opinion and I'm not attacking your opinion or anything. Just that Robinson's strength has always been his work ethic. The coaches own admission is that Robinson is always early and ready to go to work. I'm not sure if D-mo has a superior Bball IQ, they both seem to make silly mistakes on the court but usually nothing laughably Josh Smith level bad. They both have really high potential because they are both hard workers, I just like Robinson's skill set and I think he really can become a elite defender. I wish people would just watch his defense more because he really shines there.
I feel Dmotie can be a permanent starter. He seems to have the tools to do everything and just need more experience. I never seen a 7 footer run with that kind of quickness. He's got the length, the shooting touch...ability to play D because of his height. Ability to rebound, pass...he seems to have everything...just need to polish it up ...including post up moves.
Please don't turn DMo vs TRob debates into personal attacks like a couple of PGs that will remain unnamed. This is about the Rockets first.
DMO - Poor mans Dirk TRob - Kris Humphries Jones - Marvin Williams DMO fits the team better and has the highest potential of all them, so I will say DMO becomes the best player of the three.
