Lithuania deciding to return compulsory military services. Lithuania citizens of age 19-26 and under 38 whose have diploma of higher education could win so called "lottery" and join military services for 9 months. http://tv.lrytas.lt/?id=14248808781424361496 So NBA fans can loss Jonas or/and Donatas for atleast 1 season if they win lottery.
They probably won't enforce it to athletes or at least let them delay it until their playing days are over like they do with Korean athletes.
Greece has compulsory militrary service and no famous/rich person ends up going. So don't worry. This applies only to us the poor. Donatas is safe.
It states the lottery as a way to avoid discriminating against social status. HOWEVER, I have heard that miltaries purposes choose lower social class because people with high security outside of military life have a tendency to lay low and do the minimums required.
Lithuania has corruption but except for that there are usually a few windows like : services to the nation for famous athletes and such. There is no way the Nba players are called to the army. wherever there are many poor there are also some filthy rich. But way to go ahead and make a bad discriminating joke.
This is a pretty big deal. I am living in Kiev, Ukraine and all the Baltic countries are putting a draft into motion. Why do you think Andrei Kirilenko left the NBA and 'signed' with Russia?!
I think the country values the money he can reinvest back into Lithuania more than him playing soldier.
