Without Durant they wouldn't even be in the tourney. I overrated DJ. He might be a second rounder at best. He's played like crap when it's counted in like 4 straight games now. National Player of the Year, uh yeah. Durant is amazing, if he had some help UT could have had a chance at the National Championship. Augustin is terrible descion maker. He killed UT in both Kansas games and now in the tourney. Wat overrated.
he absolutely fell apart the second the regular season ended. i have no idea what happened to him. earlier in the year, he was great at going to the basket and finishing (and was terrible at finishing the last few games), great at ball-handling, and great at finding guys. nothing went right today. we got it down to 4 then just imploded.
So a couple bad tourney games and all of the sudden he is a bad player that will be a second rounder at best? DJ definitely didn't play well at all in both tournaments but that doesn't change the fact that he had a great freshman campaign. Very few kids come in and have to run an entire team the second they step on the court, DJ played very well for us this season and leading the Big 12 in assists isn't a fluke. You're right...w/o Durant we wouldn't have made the tourney, but who knows if we would have made it w/o DJ.
What a surprise! KAS13 has something negative to say about a Longhorn. In other news: Sun rises, Rafer Alston shoots the ball and DaDakota thinks VSpan should get some more playing time.
I realized I overrated the guy too. He isnt as good as I originally thought and his poise is so weak when compared to a guy like Sosa. If Augustin isnt scoring he doesnt find many ways to help his team. And I realized this weeks ago, not just in the tourney. Tourney isnt freshman friendly, we all know that.
Seems like I'm the only one who doesn't think highly of him. I've seen too many games where he failed to make a good decision.
So you guys mean to tell me that an 18-year-old isn't ready for the NBA right away? We should probably just take him out back and put him down then.
Well, I will just say that for his own sake he better stick around college for another couple of years, because he's mentally not ready for the big league.
I'd say he had a pretty damn good freshman year. He will become a star for Texas over the next couple of years and he will be a solid NBA 1st rounder. I think that Sosa kid could end up being a top 10 overall pick so I'm not sure he is the best one to compare him too.
What a suprise, you call me a UT hater every time even though I like tons of UT players. Looks like I'm not the only one who thinks he's overrated. Durant is one of my favorite players and I've grown to like VY. However, i'm a huge UT hater b/c I thought USC was going to win and was wrong about VY (like a lot of people). I was rooting for UT today, hence the post (didn't you detect anger in it?). I was pissed at Augustin b/c he's played like crap in 3 huge games and cost UT the game. I guess i'm lying about all that though. No, a few bad games doesn't erase a whole season but against tough competition I think a ot of the weaknesses (I disagreed with some) that someone pointed out were correct. he's no TJ Ford and he certainly won't be at the presentation of the National Player of the Year awards unless he's getting autographs or stalking a fellow college athlete.
We'll see about that. Granted he's a Freshman but let's see him at least make the NBA before we comppare him to a player already in it. VSPan>2 DJ right now. That assessment makes no sense.
No but people were touting him as a future POTY and that's far from even close. I was one of the people who predicted him to be a first rounder just a little while ago (check the threads) but I saw a ton of flaws in his game I didn't like. He's only 18 so he has a chance to correct them. I'm just giving an opinion which apparently makes me a UT hater.
He could still be a future POTY, a couple bad tourney games when you're a freshman doesn't make a career. It doesn't necessarily make you a UT hater, but doing a complete 180 after a disappointing freshman performance in the NCAA tournament doesn't make you sound all that smart.
No way. It's not just the game today, it's the two Kansas games as well. Big pressure, UT needed him and he was horrific. In fact, they win both Kansas games without him and certainly have a shot today. I noticed some of the flaws in his game that some other posters pointed out. I hadn't paid attention as closely as they had obviously. I doesn't make me sound dub, actually it's the contrary. It makes me realize I probably jumped the gun a little on him (he could still be a first found pick) but I was most likely wrong like I was about VY.
Those also happened to be DJ's worst games of the season, also no coincidence that 2 of them came against the best team in the Big 12. Look at 3 of Acie Law's worst games as a freshman or whenever and I bet you could say similar things. The fact that you think UT would have won both games against KU w/o DJ really raises flags in your post. DJ had the task of running an entire team the second he stepped on campus, even though we had Durant, we still had a starting lineup comprised of 4 freshman and a sophomore. DJ led the Big 12 in assists and is only 18 years old, there is a lot of room to improve. Just like you admitted to jumping the gun earlier in the season, don't you think you maybe doing the exact same thing again?
DJ has a loooooong way to go. He's a decent college PG who had a good season. But against the best teams late in the year he didn't do so well. To say he would succeed in the NBA is a wild guess and maybe wishful thinking. Let's see what he's like in a couple of years. Conley of Ohio State is the freshman PG I want. That guy is solid as a rock. You switch him with DJ and UT makes the Final Four.
