So! Moving my old Sony TV home from my dorm a couple of a weeks ago had disasterous results and the thing basically snapped in half (it's 9 years old and the case already was begining to crack and fall apart in various places). It's a really nice TV, 27", the image was still great and I plugged it in and all the electronics seem to be fine still as far as I can tell.... so, I was thinking about trying to salvage it as a summer project. All I really need to do is figure out how to fashion a new case to hold everything... but I'm not really sure where to start... I'm relatively handy and can handle building stuff, I built a couple of subwoofer boxes last summer without much difficulty, so I can handle building something. It's got the large CRT to deal with so it's gotta be something strong enough to support that... I don't even know what material to use... all TV's are basically housed in plastic it seems, not sure how I could get that... wood is most accessible but I'm guessing that's prolly not the best material to use with the possibility of it catching on fire... Any thoughts? This seemed like a fun idea in my head and if I could get something going I'd like to do something neat like building my Playstation 2 into it... And I knowI could prolly go out and buy a new 27" for a couple of hundered, but what fun is that... Thanks guys
your best bet is to go to the mom and pop repair shops, give them a call and see if they can help you finding a TV case since I would think they order parts all the time.
