Is this really not posted anywhere? It was front page news in Houston. apologies if it is, but I checked three pages deep. In concert in London, the lead singer says to the audience, "Just so you know, I am ashamed that President Bush is from Texas." whoa!! needless to say, there is rampant demands to stop playing their songs on Country stations.
Another example of a celebrity believing their fame entitles them to comment publically on political policy. It's stupid no matter what ideology they adhere to.
Country radio is so stupid for the 'ban' a lot of stations are putting on the Dixie Chicks, but the chick that did say this has to be even more stupid. I think its one thing if she were to say something like that here in America, but the fact that she goes over to England to promote her group's CD and says this is just dumb. A LOT of country stations are dumping the Chicks' newest single "Travelin' Solider," I was looking at a chart thats updated twice a day, and since yesterday the song has 500 less radio spins than it did the day before.
Well, if celebrities don't get to practice their rights, why should we. I am supsect of her motivation though, maybe she was worried that the Brits would make the connection and leave the show. Either way, I'm not ashamed he's from Texas, Bush wasn't even born here
I support her exercising her right to express her opinion, but there are always going to be consequences to that. Radio Stations or listeners or whoever also do have a right to disagree and protest her opinions in whatever way they see fit.
I went to the Rodeo friday night, and a comic did a short set between Milsap and Ray Charles. When he made a joke criticizing the Dixie Chicks, the crowd roared in approval. The Dixie Chicks will not survive this incredible error in judgement. The music business is way too competitive, and the country fans are too conservative for the Chicks to criticize our President on foreign soil. Fearless prediction- the Chicks will break up within a year.
It will be interesting to see how the Dixie Chicks will be treated during their summer tour which includes a stop in Austin in May.
I don't know, the fans who put the Chicks over the top aren't exactly country fans. Besides, all they need to do is write one patriotic song with a video that shows our planes blowing **** up left and right and all will be well. Hell, if Lee Greenwood can convince Republicans to beat people up for not standing during his song, then the Chicks can find a way out of this.
Yeah, it must have been a Republican who beat up that young man, because everybody knows Democrats don't love their country.
Actually, I was at the Rodeo Thursday and Friday night, and I am a little disappointed in my fellow Houstonians for allowing that fight to happen. The minute that redneck started picking on that young kid, everybody near that scene should have jumped in and set the redneck straight. Also, I agree with you about the Chicks. Their music is not that great. How did they become major crossover bluegrass based stars, when Nickel Creek, Allison Krause, Gillian Anderson, etc. still play smaller venues? Celebrity is hard to figure sometimes.
The lead singer is the one with the wierd hair in the new video? Yeah. She is quite possibly one of the ugliest people I have ever seen on TV in a long, long, time.
Given the fact that Americans do have freedom of speech this really shouldnt be an issue at all. I think what she said was wrong, but she does have that right. And two wrongs dont make a right in this matter. The fact that country radio stations arent playing their songs is ridiculous and shows how MORONIC they really are. If they would REALLY think about it, our soldiers are fighting for our freedoms that were drafted in the constitution. Regardles of the content of what Natalie Maines said, if it were not for the constitution, she would not have that right. On a side note, I do like some of the Chicks music because they write most of their own material, play their own instruments, and harmonize incredibly well. As a musician, I respect that.
point taken. Man, is it really that long ago that I studied the Civil War? Thanks for pointing that out.
