I was wondering if anyone else had heard about this. I was in Austin last week talking to a friend of mine, Fran Christina (former drummer of the Fabulous Thunderbirds). He had dinner with Natalie Maines in Atlanta the week before, and she said that the Dixie Chicks tried to donate two million dollars to the American Red Cross to help the families of casualties of the war and also recent flood victims, but they were TURNED DOWN by the Red Cross' conservative board members and told to keep their money. A little disturbing that the political aspect of charity overrides the common goal which it's supposed to achieve. Sorry if this is a repost.
somehow i doubt it...i'd think that the dixie chicks would already be using this as spin for the negative press they've been getting if this were so. i can't see the media staying away from this story...stories like this don't break over email.
It would seem so, wouldn't it. But from Fran's impression, he said they had just decided to let it go instead of bringing on more heat. After they were demonized so bad for having an opinion, I doubt that any media outlet would recognize, let alone champion this story. If anything, I'd think Fox News would pick it up and call them liars.
If it's true, it's absolutely disgusting. And, DonnyMost, next time you talk to Fran, please let him know that HE IS THE MAN!!!!
exactly...this story is likely untrue...and if it were true, the media would be running with it like crazy.
I see what you mean, but why should they have to donate anonymously? That's ridiculous. Maybe we should make them wear bells on their clothes so we know when they're coming. It's so sad to me that so much hatred is going toward this all-woman band when we could have been hating the Indigo Girls instead.
I´m sorry for not being very enlightened. What exactly did the dixie chicks do to get all this hate their way?
that's not the extent of it...there are lots of principled people who are against the war whom I greatly respect. the dixie chicks were in london at a concert...at the concert...to their fans...the lead singer said, "we just want you to know we're ashamed to share the same home state with our president." (loose quote...but definitely something to this effect) then they were outraged at the response of fans here in the states when they stopped buying their album and radio stations stopped playing their songs. that's what happened. it wasn't merely that they were against the war...dave matthews was against the war...he came out and said so on the band's website. bit of a difference from what the chicks did.
Not necessarily. All they have to do was send a cashier's check to the Red Cross (or set up a pseudo company or numerous other things). They would not lose the tax break by not sending the money on a check which said "Dixie Chicks". Granted they would have an issue if they sent an envelope with cash in it, but it is unlikley they would send that much cash anyways.
