I just wanted to tell my boys on the BBS about my new purchase.

I bought a DivX Ultra enabled DVD player today from Circuit city for 59.99 after 10 dollar rebate.

Before I would download episodes of TV shows that I had missed and half to watch them on my computer because I didn't have the software to encode them onto to a DVD. I did some research and the software starts at 30 bucks and goes up from there. Not too expensive but I didn't like having to wait for it to encode it on my PC.

I looked around and I forget if it was this board or another one that someone told me about finding one that is DivX enabled. I had not bought a DVD player in two years and the first thing I thought was that I did not want to drop a bill on a new DVD player. Then I looked and there are some DivX ones as cheap as 40 buck (check slickdeals.net). The one I got has DivX Ultra and a USB port on the front.

*EDIT* It keeps getting better, I found the easiest hack in the world and now it plays DVD's from all over the world.

    The one I got

So far I love it. The DivX shows show up crystal clear.

Note to all those college students who have hundreds of DivX movies on cd-r. This is the player for you.

I know someone will say how dumb I am for not wanting to convert stuff but I kind of needed a new DVD player because the one I had in the bedroom was from 1998 and two all I have to do is drag, drop and hit burn and in 45 seconds I am done. There may be a more high tech way but this is pretty easy.

OK, so how would this help me if I have a bunch of video on my laptop that I want to transfer to DVD discs?

I have the same DVD player

Thats the thing you dont need to worry about converting anything and then burning it onto a DVD. Like he said, click, drag, then burn and youre done.

I hate the remote for that dvd player though. If you hold STOP for about 3 seconds it will eject the disc! I just found out recently.

Cool player. You don't even need to burn DVD's with the USB port, man. All you have to do is connect a USB thumb drive or - even better - a megastorage USB HDD with all your divx, mp3, and jpeg files for instant and convenient playback. Now I want to get one of these suckers.

I got the $40 one for my gf last year and it works flawlessly. Its been pretty good on the divx files it plays but out of the ones ive burned maybe like 2 of them didn't play. I'd like to get the one you purchased for my dad's bday because we have a projection TV with DVI input in which we can use the HDMI input converter and still view Divx files. Thats genius...=)

I've got the lowend model. It kicks huge ass.

Man, I'm glad I found out about the USB drive model. Now I know what I'm getting dad for Xmas.

I got a Magnavox DVD/CD player that plays DivX from Wal Mart a couple of weeks ago. Haven't tested it yet.

Maybe. However, given the very basic menu interface used to select files on the player, I don't think you'd want to hook anything up to it that had a whole lot of files. The player truncates filenames after so many characters, which would suck if you're trying to sort through 120GB of files.

Say you had 20 movies on your hard drive that took of 4 gigs os space. you can salp them all onto 1 dvd and play them on this player without converting them or buying software.

Okay I just confirmed it. It will see the avi file but it won't play it for some reason. I used a thumb drive. People with External HD's say they can.

Yes it will but it will only play songs and display photos. That part kind of sucks.

The remote is a little small but I use one universal remote so I just prgrammed it into ours.

I found this review on the Circuit city website.

    **************************************
Excellent DivX Playback (Can't see any difference between 700 MB and the original DVD). HD Upconvert works great. You can even use external Hard Drive after formatting them to FAT32 and this player plays movies, pictures, MP3 EVERYTHING from the Hard Drive itself using the USB port. For this price, just don't waste your time, go and get one and you will the amazed like me. EXCELLENT by all the means. GREAT GREAT GREAT Product .
