It depends on the terms of her contract. Disney's response shifts focus on her supposed callousness, which is of course irrelevant to the case. I'm inclined to think that they are screwing her over, because it's Disney and that's what they do.

Yep. Disney's response was to make her look like a callous c***, which is pretty much what you would expect. "Twenty million bucks. World ravaged by Covid."

At the same time, I don't know if this is something she should have just let go.

Disney is likely a big corporate pedo ring... not unlike the catholic church. Power and children attracts weirdos sadly. That said I hope she gets a huge payout.

Your posts give off a pedo ring vibe as well. I just can’t help it though, I see pedo ring every where.

I think it’s good for both actors and streaming platforms that this is happening so there can be legal clarifications moving forward that can be better negotiated up front.

Of course Disney has screwed her theoretically but I’m not positive in reality that there is yet a huge market for long theatrical hits. I still am not comfortable with trusting the ventilation at theatres. I streamed Black Widow for 30 bucks where I wouldn’t have gone to the theatre. I’m sure there a millions more like me that felt it wasn’t worthy seeing at the theatre but got bored one night and decided to stream.

But it’s a good thing that the actors can get a case litigated. Especially with Disney’s power hopefully the courts provide some power back to actors and hopefully the other thousands of workers on set and in the studio who have performance based comp.

Scarlet's people apparently have an E-mail from a Disney rep acknowledging that if they decided on a streaming release that terms would have to be renegotiated.

Her side claims theater exclusivity first and that she lost some $50M when Disney decided to stream on its popular Disney+ platform.

WB did renegotiate with their stars to stream on their platform.

Sounds like Disney breached the expectation of the contract. Given streaming is the future, future contracts will have to include streaming revenue for these stars.

Maybe she's got a good case, but shame on her agent for not having a share of streaming revenues explicitly built into the contract already. It's not like we just invented streaming in 2020.

Brother, this movie was suppose to be released awhile ago. It's been delayed like 3 times.
Definitely before any indication of a pandemic and switching new releases on streaming.

Netflix started streaming in 2007. You could see the potential for this to happen ever since. The streaming industry has been bonkers for at least the last 5 years. How long ago did she sign this contract?

Disney+ didn't even exist when this contract was written. Until the pandemic there was no such thing as direct release.

Standard streaming residuals are already accounted for, but we're always microscopic compared to box office cut. Disney changed the game after the contract was written.
