    A Disneyland/DisneyWorld in Houston?

Would Houstonians have to vote to allow the monorail? :D

It's not so far fetched to believe that the 4th largest city in the country will get a theme park.. especially from a company that has been looking to expand to "middle america" for decades..

    Nicely played, sir.

Seriously though, this has been a rumor for decades. I really don't think given the turmoil within Disney in recent years that adding a new major theme park is on their agenda.

To add to the rumor, The Texas Rennassaince Festival in Magnolia is supposedly owned by Disney. All employess get their checks from Disney, and Disney is said to own about 200 acres across the street from the festival grounds. This has also been rumored to becoming a new Disney site. At one point, there was a colorful gate that was even put up and some land was cleared on the site, and everyone braced themselves for an announcement.

From a business standpoint, this doesn't make sense to me, though. Why would a large company like Disney put a HUGE attraction in a small town the size of Magnolia, when there are literally no roads that would be able to hold the traffic. In Magnolia, there is a yearly wave of HORRIBLE traffic (I know some of the posters here will atest to this) just from the Rennassaince(I know I butchered that word) traffic. Yes, Magnolia is growing by leaps and bounds, but to me, this rumor doesn't make any sense, and I think Katy is probably one of a couple places that Disney would even consider.

This isn't true...my boyfriend's uncle works there (for many years now) and checks are not from Disney. Rumors sure are fun though!

    Actually it is somewhat true...

My father in-law works for Txdot and has been in contact with the Mayor of that city ( normally the king of renassaince ) and Disney is actually interested in buying the land... Now he did not say if they were going to put up a Disnelyland just that they are interested or allready buying property.

My Father in-law talked with them because of the potential traffice that it might cause. And how long it would take a major freeway to be built.. etc.etc.. He's usually right because when I heard about I-10 being built into this billion dollar project it was some time in the mid 90's when he told me about it.

I don't know how long this rumor has been going around, but I've heard it since I was an itty-bitty little girl. I would absolutely love it if this one was true, but if it hasn't come to fruition in my 27 years, I believe it will forever be dormant. :(

On another note, a lot of companies own big chunks of land in the Houston area and haven't done anything with them in years. There's a huge stretch of land along 288 that is owned by MGM Mirage. Has been for years. There's no giant casino there. I think a lot of companies buy cheap land near large cities just in case they can use it later. Wouldn't surprise me if Disney has a couple of chunks all around the city....

I could have told you as a 10 year old that I-10 would be expanded greatly in the coming years.
