Dishnetwork is asking me to switch from my local cable company to them. I would get DSL for 26.99 plus 60 channels for 31.99 (I get to wtach CCTV9). I currently pay $90 for cable plus internet and on demand tv from local cable. My question is, is Dishnetwork good and stable? Especially during rain and snow storm? I guess DSL is not as fast as cable but it will be ok for me. Any help is appreciated.
I love Dish Network and wouldnt trade it for anything. Be sure to get the DVR, it is great. I rarely have problems with the service going out. I dont know who you would have DSL through but I hate SBC and their service. I cant wait until my year contract is up, I am so dropping them.
Ive had Dish Network for 6 years and its gone out in bad weather only a handful of times, and usually only for 2-3 mins at the most.
I love dish network, would never switch back to cable. It does go out during thunderstorms, usually for just a little bit, depending on severity of the storm. It has never been for very long. As far as snow storm, can't help you there - don't see too much of that in Houston. As far as DSL and cable, I actually prefer DSL - granted I pay for the faster service.
I've had DishNetwork for about 4 years and like it as well. I don't think I would ever switch back to cable also. It goes out during bad thunderstorms but it's never gotten to a point where it is a negative aspect for me. The funny thing is that I have a WHOLE lot less wash outs during rain once I moved into my house from the apartment I was living in. The only drawback for me is that I got it before they started giving away the DVR systems so I have to spend the money to upgrade. . .
Dish Network is the shiznit!! It's got a ton of International programming...they have this package called 'Great Wall' where it has alot Chinese stuff it's somewhere on their site, I remember seeing it
I used to have Dish. I loved it...only got rid of it because of the apt. I moved to. I have cable now, and here is the one reason to keep cable: HD Programming. Cable flat out has more of it right now. I have an HD DVR and it only costs me 14$ a month....which may seem like a lot, BUT I can record all my HD programs IN HD. Until Dish or DirectTV comes out with a more affordable solution to have HD and DVR functionality in one box (without have to pay $700 for it) then I'll stick with cable. If HD programming isn't important to you, disregard this post.
Where did you get that deal? I would love to get a Dish, but we don't have any phone line to use DSL.
I get frustrated with the service going out during thunderstorms. Also, I lose the signal to G4 every day, usually at night, for like a half hour. I'm not too thrilled about their customer service. My dad was calling because of a problem and they just sent us a new box for his tv. You are thinking, great, that's cool, but they wanted to charge us like 100 dollars. So he sent it back without opening it. For some reason, my tv doesn't get the same channels as the others. I spent a long ass time on the phone trying to get that fixed and the guy decided that the only course of action was to send a new box. Before I could agree to that, the phone cut off, so I coudn't ask if I would have to pony up for that as well. I tried calling back, but got cut off again and just dropped the issue.
I don't have Dish, but DirecTV. I think Dish is a little cheaper to get into though so that's probably your best bet. The main reason I chose DirecTV over Dish was simple for me.....NFL Sunday Ticket, other than that I think they are fairly equal. Dish and DirecTV are both 100% digital....."Digital" cable is not. As far as storms, I'll lose the signal about once or twice a year and like codell said it only lasts for a few minutes.
Dish has alot of HD..they just got all of Voom programming that plus locals and premium about 15-18 channels + Local HD but your right about the hardware
Well, they called me. I must be important. You can go to dishnetwork.com and they have the offering on there.
