So I have been a cable customer forever and eventually when I get my HDTV I am going to move to dish network. A buddy of mine has Dish and he has 2 tv's and only one box. He has 2 dish remotes and somehow is able to use all the menu functions on the TV without a box. How does he do this? You can watch two different shows on both TV's and only the upstairs tv has the box.

I will have 4 tv and a tv tuner card. How will I have to setup my house for them all to have tv? I don't have to have 5 boxes right? That would be expensive.

I work at a satellite retailer that sells both Dish Network and Directv. The box is either a 322 (standard), a 625 (DVR) or a 622 (HD/DVR). On the other TV, you just aim the remote at the TV and it works just the same as the other with the box next to it.

So if you have 4 TVs, you will receive 2 boxes.

I have dish with only one box and 2 Tv's. When I signed up I checked that I wanted dish for 2 Tv's. When the guy came to set it up, he said that since I wanted dish for 2 Tv's it would be programmed that way from wherever they are located. The main box will show you how many Tv's you are set up to have on dish. The extra Tv's will also have to be connected just like with cable tv, so as long as there are cable outlets for those Tv's you should be ok. I'm pretty sure that you can get up to 4 Tv's with the signal but you have to make sure and ask for it. I think it costs a little more also.

Like bigballerj said, some of the newer dish receivers will only run a max of 2 TVs (they are called dual tuners). You can split the 2nd signal off the main box and have 1 receiver run 3 TVs, but the 2nd and 3rd TVs will run off one tuner (i.e. whatever is on the 2nd TV will be on the 3rd TV). You can't have one receiver and run more than 2 TVs independently.

I have the HD-DVRs on two TVs. They are both dual tuners, so I actually have 5 TVs hooked up.

I pay about $90 a month I think, give or take a few bucks.

FYI, Fox Sports HD is still not up on Dish Network yet, so no Rocket games on HD, unless they are on TNT or ESPN.
