you should also download the last Death Cab Album "The Photo Album". In particular the track "Styrofoam Plates", which is reallly a standout track. You should also download the Built To Spill album "Keep It Like A Secret". Great guitar driven pop with really interesting and melodic soloing and just terrific songwriting. Death Cab borrows from that band quite liberally.
OK, I was pimping that Death Cab for Cutie album back in October when it came out in the "What are you listening to" thread and got absolutely no response. I'd say thay may be my favorite of any the bands I've discovered in the past five years. Interpol may be a close second, but with only one record out it's hard to make that bold a judgement. But if you like Death Cab, you should definitely check out their album We Have the Facts and We're Voting Yes. I listened to the Stills album at a record store a while back. Quite nice. They sound a lot like Interpol, which is a good thing. Something else to look for: The Rapture. Their single "House of Jealous Lover" makes me shake body parts I didn't know I could shake.
Oh definitely. I liked them, but I had never thought of the similarities. I guess my tastes haven't changed that much.
I'm not the heppest cat around, so I don't get into a lot of new acts. But the Detroit Cobras are smokin'
The first Detroit Cobras album is smoking, but I'm not so into the others. Great vocalist. I believe on of the Black Crowes is in the band..but maybe just as a keyboard player or something.
Well to be fair, that thread was 20-something pages. But this time I'm going to check out every band mentioned in this thread so I don't miss out on something good like last time.
But I posted it on the first page! Anyway, I'm just glad you found them. And horray for MTV for promoting something good for once!
ive been listening to all of these groups for a while but not everbody knows about them: ben harper, jack johnson, o.a.r., wilco, guster, cardinal direction, and travis.
i think people need to get more into lucky boys confusion and zebrahead. better than any of the more popular music out there. except for 311.
If you live in Portland, you should check out 36 crazyfists. They are a harder rock band, who relocated to Portland from Anchorage, Alaska. They are playing local shows around the area, testing out their new stuff off their cd due out in March(A Snow Capped Romance, ala my sig ). They are truly one of the more original sounding bands out there. Also another great rock group out of Arizona is Ph8. They are in talks with Columbia Records, and I know a good friend of the band. They are great, you guys should check them out. They do a nice cover of "Baby Got Back".
Singer/songwriters and Americana mostly: Two Dollar Pistols- Charlotte Four on the Floor- Rock Hill, SC Weary Boys- Austin South Austin Jug Band- Austin Onion Creek Crawdaddies- Austin Todd Snider- (not new, but still good)- used to be San Marcos, in California now I believe Polyphonic Spree- Dallas Eleven Hundred Springs- Dallas Fur Lined Volcanoes- Winston-Salem
Yes, as a matter of fact I bought Photo Album and Something About Airplanes over the weekend. Both excellent especially Photo Album. Man that guy writes some personal lyrics. Styrofoam Plates and Information Travels Faster are standout tracks. Now I've found a new band to obsess over.
