Sad to hear that Yao's out (FML), but don't the Rockets recieve the disabled player exception or something? Isn't it like the MLE; this could help us sign a free agent big.
Yea, this could actually turn out pretty well if we can stockpile some young talent with this money... I think we should offer the full to Brandon Bass...
Von Wafer! i dont think the rockets will receive the exception quick enough to act upon any of the decent players left in the pool. hopefully if the rockets know they'll get it, they can agree to terms with von and ask him to wait until they are allowed to sign him.
Should definitely have enough for him, I thought I read somewhere that for Yao we would get around $5.5 mil for him being out all year long.
Von would also be a great choice because we VERY BADLY NEED a SG that can score.... Do you think Brandon Bass would accept an MLE level deal? I think that guy has all-star potential and could give us another big to throw in the game.
Rockets are over LT. If they want use that exception fully they'll need to cut around the MLE of salary... Rockets should consider this trade: McGrady + Cook → Stackhouse + Dampier + George. Rockets cut $5M from team salary which would allow them to use a disabled player exception. They are over LT and won't use it if the're not competing this year. This is about stockpiling talent for next season. Stackouse is only partially guaranteed if he's waived. That creates a further $5.25M of salary space. Otherwise he'd make greater trade asset at the trade deadline. Dampier fills a need for a year and is an expiring contract (the 2nd year is fully non-guaranteed) All up, this deal has the potential to shed $10.25M from the Rockets salary books. I'd keep Scola, Battier, and Barry. You don't want a squad to be too young especially in a losing environment. That could poison the lockerroom for the future. Keep the vet leaders.
That'll just be another power foward who can't play the 5. I think maybe we should bait a young center to half of the exception and then give some of it to Wafer. I hope the money will be given to the Rockets in time so that there are still quality FA out there.
Brandon Bass can play C imo. 7-2 wingspan... +A jumpshot & a hard worker & an athlete... Most importantly he just turned 24!!!
Aaron Brooks Kyle Lowry Trevor Ariza Carl Landry Chuck Hayes -------------------- We have some good, young, "proven" talent.... The money we spend needs to fit in with this group in my opinion. AKA, The 25 and under club.... Brandon Bass and Von Wafer are the 2 most talented young players on the board I believe. Both are in "need" positions for the Rockets. Zaza could also possibly fit this role, but I think he has very limited upside compared to Bass as far as the Rockets getting a big man goes...
Why? That dude can play, dude. He has all the tools, and some damn good stats in the amount of minutes he is getting.(He was great in the playoffs too...)
I just don't see him as a 5. If he were, that's exactly where dallas would have had him. If the Rockets can move Landry for a 5, then by all means, go for Bass. Otherwise, I like Pachulia with this money if they are able to get it. Any cap experts have an opinion on this? GATER? NikeSTRAD?
I am not sure if how that works but try to imagine if we have a line like this Aaron Brooks Marvin Williams Trevor Ariza Scola ? ....I am only dreaming...
Yup, I kinda agree. It is just hard to pass on such high potential for that amount of money, sort of like the Ariza signing. In my mind....This year, screw positions.......... Play small, play fast, stockpile the most talented young players you can, and we will make our splash next year. It could also enable us to trade Landry or god forbid Scola to get a stud.
