1.) list the players in the NBA you would NOT trade for Dirk. 2.) throughout his career he's been considered a defensive liability. do you think, with proper coaching (JVG or L.Brown), he could become an all-star on BOTH ends of the court? just curious...
Dirk has got to be one of the top players in the league and the knock on him is he doesnt play tough defense but he is still 7 foot so he will change some shots. - only players team wont trade for Dirk are. Kobe, KG, Duncan, Lebron, Yao I think everyone else is fair game and even with a different more defensive minded coach I dont think his man to man defense will get any better. Dallas's zone defense helps to cover up for some of his defensive liabilities so the system is good for him. J
i think you are talking about Dirk Nowitzki. I'm a big fan of him. (to bad he is German ). 1:Garnett, Duncan, James. 2: I think he can be a good defensive player, he has got the size and quickness. But he does not want to play defense better. I think if he plays hard on the defensive end, his offense will suffer from it, because it is exhausting to play hard on defense and carry the offense of your team.
It's not really possible to answer this. One has to consider contract and teammates when you talk about Dirk. For example, I wouldnt trade Jim Jackson for him. Why? Because Dirk is gonna get paid $12.5 million this year, and with T-Mac on our books and knowing that we're gonna have to ante up for Yao soon, it's too much salary to take on. On the other hand, Jim Jackson is only getting paid $2.5 million this year. He's a helluva bargain. Too many loose variables to answer this. -- droxford
Dirk is one hell of a player, but he still needs to take that next step. The step that I think Garnett has recently taken, Duncan always had, etc. From great player, to great player AND great leader.
If you wouldn't trade Lebron for Dirk, then I sure wouldn't trade TMac for Dirk. My list would include Shaq, Yao, KG, Duncan, Jermaine, AK-47, and TMac. I don't know if I would even protect Kobe. Kobe has to prove that he is a difference maker this year. Kirilenko makes me salivate. He makes everybody better. Dirk is a great, great shooter from long range but all the rest of his skill set is average. I like power forward that can defend, hit the medium range jumper, and rebound like crazy.
1. Duncan, Garnett, Shaq, Yao, LeBron, McGrady, Kobe (....though I really don't want to include him), AK47. That's given in order. 2. No. Dirk has yet to even display the raw tools or instincts for defense. For a seven footer, his block and rebounding averages are below average at best. That said, you only need to be an all-star on one end of the court to play in the February game. Evan
