I'm moving into a new house next week and it is set-up for (and includes the dish) DirectTV. I am a long-time digital cable (Time-Warner Austin) subscriber who basically watches only HD programming (can't watch SD signals anymore). The guy I'm buying the house from had this to say in an email to me this morning:
"Also, Direct TV told me to leave the dish and just take my boxes. It is a new 4 signal system (3 sets + DVR). Living room and DVR were only HD signals if it matters."
I have heard rumors about DirecTV and HD programming. Can you have multiple HD/DVR boxes running simultaneously? Can you really only watch ONE HD program in the house at a time? Surely this can't be the case, right? I know people don't have multiple dishes outside just so the wife can watch HGHD while the rest of the sane folks watch the NBA playoffs in the other room...
I want to run 3 HD TVs: one in each living area and one in the bedroom. I pretty much have to have DVRs on all of them. Tell me this is possible with the system described above.

Please enlighten me if you can.

    Thanks in advance.

The first time I read the post I thought you said you had a tv in the bathroom, not bedroom.

Anyway, you like to watch a lot of tv!

    hahaha...

I like to watch basketball and football. I also enjoy [adult swim] and a few things on the Food Network. My wife likes the sports too, but she has a few programs she watches that I can't tolerate. I'm a slave to the DVR because I can't stand to watch commercials. I generally make sure I watch things about an hour late so I can fast-forward.

I have Directv with 2 HD DVRs, and I have no problem having both on an HD channel at the same time. Your setup should be fine.
