I was wondering if anyone could help me on this.

I currently have U-verse for both high-speed internet and (do I call it cable?) television.

I have had no problems with U-verse (not since I first got it anyway), so it isn't that I dislike U-verse, but I need and want to get some international TV stations that U-verse doesn't cover.

Direct TV, however, does offer the stations I want, and is now offered at my apartment complex (U-verse had a bit of a monopoly for awhile).

Switching the TV is one thing. But I can't go without Internet too long. Can I have U-verse for internet and Direct TV for the TV channels? Is there a better option for internet than U-verse if I do switch to Direct TV for the TV stations?

Ignorant questions from a non-technodude but I don't want whatever services I order/cancel to get all screwed up.

These are perfectly valid questions, because I had them too. You can certainly keep your U-Verse internet connection, while having satellite TV service through someone else. For me, Dish Network had the international programming that we wanted (so look into it too), while U-Verse cable TV did not. Unfortunately for me, I couldn't get satellite installed because our apartment didn't have a clear view of the southern sky so I had to stick with U-Verse cable tv. Not perfect, but certainly no complaints so far.

I think for $35.99/month (the rate may have gone up, I'm not sure) you can't beat 6Mbits for your internet. Your other option for high speed cable service would be Comcast. While their service sucks in my opinion and they're evil people, I think they've been having good deals lately in order to get customers back. You'd have to check. I like my U-Verse internet because I haven't had any connection/downtime issues, and there's no contract to sign. Hopefully this info helps. Good luck.

I would think you could, but you're probably going to pay more than the guy who's getting internet/phone/tv from Uverse in a package deal.

CHeck to see if you have any open wireless connections open in your complex.

I have 3 different ones that are open. I still have my own 12mbs connection, but occasionally my laptop is connected to one of the others if I'm DL'ing on mine.

I used to dig U-Verse before they got so large, but have had nothing but problems with their **** ass customer service, incorrect billing and incompetent customer service reps that I'm now ready to leave.

Their HD feed sucks, but I've dealt with it. Their internet is ok, nothing special, no GB limits so far. The people who man the phones though, completely clueless. Once I leave, AT&T will NEVER be in my plans again. Completely worthless, clueless, and not worth the hassle. Plus raising rates every 2 months is ****ed.

    Done.

I used to have att for dsl and can relate. When i left to go to time warner they kept sendnig me a bill for $2 or $3. I kept paying it and this went on for like 6 mos. Each month I would call and confirm I had left their service and paying that $2 bill. Finally I just asked if this was some sort of scam they had and it stopped after about 6 mos,

A couple of years later I decided to call about getting uverse. they immediately point out that I have an outstanding balance of $2 about to go to collections. I went off on that poor lady. It reminded me of why not to do business with them

really? I have found that their customer service is top notch. However, it's been a year since I have contacted them. Has it gone downhill to the Comcast level? Those guys don't even show up for appointments
