Not sure how helpful they can be, but thought I would post it anyways... Diop, Wagner moving? According to NBA sources, the Cavaliers are stepping up their intensity in attempts to trade DeSagana Diop and Dajuan Wagner. It is believed that they would take drafts picks in return, likely second-rounders. There isn't much of a market for the two struggling former first-round picks' services league-wide. Their best value is that both are on expiring contracts, both making $2.6 million this season, so they are salary-cap clearers. The Cavaliers have big plans for their potential cap room next summer and likely won't want to take back a player with a long-term contract that would tie some of it up. Silas is also weary of the rotation of players to the injury list. Wagner was activated and Luke Jackson shelved for five games in an injury list rotation move Monday. ``I don't like it, but there's nothing we can do about it right now,'' Silas said. ``Hopefully in the future it can change.'' A player-for-pick swap would enable them to keep more healthy players active. Also, the team is light on second-round picks in the future, because they traded two away to the Orlando Magic in the Drew Gooden-Tony Battie deal. here is full link: http://www.ohio.com/mld/beaconjournal/10409939.htm?1c
I would give up a second round pick for either of these two. Especially Diop since he has lost weight and is frustrated about not playing in Cleveland.
Wagner is a scoring machine, and he doesn't have to have to ball in his hands to be effective, I would give him a try.
Both of them suck. Why aren't the Cavs using them? Diop has been a bust ever since he was drafted. And Wagner...well, he's just unlucky to be behind Lebron, McInnis, Snow, Newble, and Luke Jackson.
With respect to Diop, you can't teach size and that is exactly what he has. To his credit, Diop runs the floor extremely well for somebody his size. He's strong, can block shots and at 7'0" 280 lbs has to have rebounding ability. All i'm saying is for basically a useless 2nd round pick, this is a good deal. In this backfires, he's a free agent (R) at the end of the season.
Couldn't agree more. Wagner has a darn good rookie year, and was a scoring machine in high school. He is still very young and if injury-free, i think can be quiet effective
If you followed him closely, Wagner is one of those guys you just know was going to succeed on the next level. It's a feeling you get when you see a special player, and I had that feeling about Wagner. Thus far, it hasn't happened. He's only 21 years old, he still has time. I'm just saying, if this feeling I had about him is right---I would much rather see him breakout with us than with somebody else.
It's worth a shot. What do we have to lose? Wagner can create his own shot which is something this team desperately needs and Diop could learn a thing or two from Deke.
Sure, why not? Wagner is a SG in a PG's body (ie: Eddie House) so he would be effective as a spark off the bench. As for Diop, we all saw how Cato became a pretty good defensive/rebounding big man under JVG. I think he would flourish here, not to menton you can never have too much decent size on your roster. Especially when your main backup center is 104 yrs. old and your PFs are all of the small, less rebounding mold.
Sure... if they were to really take second round picks... take them both. We are terrible at drafing talent anyway... and if they come off the books. BUT... who are we going to dump off our roster? We are already carrying too many players... are we going to eat a salary or two of someone?
trade lue for diop. the cavs get the ending contract they want, and we get a big center who can learn from deke and ewing.
Diop is up after this year..so trade makes no sense from that standpoint. On Wagner...he DOES need the ball in his hands, and his shooting touch has never been where it was in college. Some of that is due to his size...he's one of those 2's in a 1's body. Everyone would complain about his lack of passing ability and too much dribbling and this and that. I've had enough years of that crap...I'll say no on him. But I'll take Diop for a 2nd just to hope he can rebound a little bit. And maybe make room to deal Deke in one of those rumors by Vecsey.
Why does it make no sense? It's essentially a trade off since they are both free agents at the end of the season. Who knows, maybe if Diop shows signs of promise (he's only 22 years old) we can sign him to a cheap 2-3 year deal or so.
Diop allegedly doesn't put forth any effort. We don't need players like that. Wagner is undersized and needs to have the ball to be effective but I think it might be useful to have him come off the bench because of his scoring ability.
IMO, Wagner and Diop would be great additions. I would rather have young with potential than mediocre and fading (Ward, Spoon and Howard to some extent). However, I would not want to take old lions who can still roar (Mutombo and Jackson) out of the equation.
