Garbage, pure garbage. They didn't even quote Morey, who's gone on record as saying that Ariza's game is worth the contract, even if he doesn't boost his stats. Why is that? Because Morey sees things DIMEmag does not, so it's only natural that they assume this signing is based on potential. They have learned nothing from watching how Morey operates, nothing.

    Terrible.

I'm getting pretty sick of the assumption that McGrady didn't have handles in Toronto and "developed" them in Orlando.

If Ariza can be a healthy "Darius Miles" with better attitude at MLE money, it is a steal.

I always thought Ariza could be a potential healthy T-Mac.... he just needs an outside shot. Right now, he's more of a style of play like Andre Iguodala.

Tracy McGrady always had smooth handles. That's not something you can just develop in a few years. Especially at Ariza's age. Not to mention his shot had that silky form. Combining his dribbling ability with being able to knock down a shot from anywhere on the court, McGrady became what he was in Orlando. He didn't magically develop those things. They were always there, but underutilized. Ariza does not seem to have that type of game already developed. But hey, I'd love to be wrong

His outside shot IS the strongest part of his offensive game.

You should take a look at his career numbers. Outside of the playoffs last year he has been a poor 3pt shooter. The best part of his offensive game is as a slasher and as a high energy guy.

Only if he works really hard at it.

We agree somewhat. I agree that he was never much of a shooter until last year (and even more so in the playoffs). Before that, he really had no offensive game at all. That's why at 6'8" with a massive wingspan and world class athleticism he couldn't get in the rotation on mediocre to bad teams.

Currently, he is a spot up shooter on offense and little else. Being an "energy guy" usually means you suck which he did until last season.

There is Ryan Bowen/Mark Madsen "Energy players"

Then there is Carl Landry "Energy players"

If we really want to compare Ariza to an NBA vet I would pick James Posey. Their games still differ quite a bit(Ariza scores most of his points around the basket, while Posey camps the 3pt line ala Battier). I just think their value is comparable, and shockingly so is their salaries.

then why does he take nearly half of his shots within a few feet of the basket?

theres only one problem. ariza has no history of being the headcase darius miles was, and he's got more heart than t-mac ever had.

I can guarantee you that he will not be McGrady for sure.

I hope some of you guys are actually right, because in my opinion ariza has no chance of becoming a elite player as mcgrady once was

Such extremes. I think Ariza has potential to become an All-Star and he's a already an excellent defender and utility man. I think he'll be more of a Gerald Wallace-type player.

why can't people just let those players be themselves?

let trevor be trevor. he'll be a pretty good player for us and that's that.
