Is there any chance of signing him now? We really need a backup C thats not the size of a small forward

I think we need him in the locker room and as a practice partner. Come one Les... just sign him.

i am missing him, as our backup C and the giant swinging finger

Just seeing him sitting there at the court side makes me feel more secure and confident about the game, and i am sure i aint the only one.

Deke didn't officially retire did he? Not that retirement means much anyway as you can just unretire, but I think he is sending us the message he is still available. As most people have suggested, I think we'll see Deke in a uniform come the February/March time frame, ala PJ Brown last year.

Mark Stein addressed this a few days ago. He has no interest in signing with another team. He's probably just counting down the days until whatever veteran minimum we can offer him becomes pro-rated at a high enough value for him to accept without losing face. Probably January/February at the earliest.

I know, but just like everyone else here I miss him and backup C is our glaring weakness

I thought the rockets are just waiting to clear up some cap space to sign deke for veteran's minimum?

Vet minimum doesn't count into the cap. He is not coming back. Live with that. I guess Morey already has started the search for a deal like SF+Head for a big.

I thought all salaries counted against the cap, it's just that you're allowed to sign someone to a veteran's min even if it puts you over the cap...kinda like the MLE.

It ultimately counts towards your overall salary payroll (and cap), although even if you are over the cap, you can still sign the MLE or vet min.

I just hope no one else picks up Dike...if some other team goes out and give dike a pretty decent contract, he might do it for the money since he needs it

I doubt this is money issue with either side. Morey is trying to bring in the best 7ft Center avail. plus getting under the cap. We are still over the cap and signing the best 7ft center (which I think Deke is still that person) would bring us even higher.

$797,581 of the vet minimum counts. Wafer is on a non-guaranteed vet min deal so he'll cost the Rockets maybe $50-$200k if they cut him before January 10 .

If the Rockets bring in Deke halfway into the season like Boston did with PJ Brown perhaps it'll cost them around $400k.

In the end Morey's not spending the full $797,581 because of luxury tax.

Maybe you can spread the blame. I'm guessing Dorsey's market price was set when Oklahoma gave Kyle Weaver his contract.
